SunGard Availability Services Reports Strong Growth, Cements Position as Major Availability and DR Player

By Laura Stotler

It’s been a banner year for MSP SunGard Availability Services, a provider of availability and disaster recovery (DR) services. The company has announced strong growth for the first half of 2013, driven by new products and services as well as strategic technology partnerships.

SunGard announced a 30 percent rise in new customer average monthly recurring revenue, along with 20-percent growth in new enterprise business. The MSP also saw its number of existing customers that acquired additional products and services go up by 31 percent.

Among the key partnerships driving SunGard’s growth was a June agreement to support virtualized platforms for Managed Oracle Services. The Oracle offering is part of SunGard’s suite of Managed Application Services, and is designed to help companies that are moving away from dedicated infrastructures to more scalable, multi-tenant setups.

In that same month, the company also partnered with CoreSite, a provider of cloud-enabled data centers. SunGard is now deployed at the company’s Boston facility with a focus on expanding business in the New England region.

SunGard was also named a key player in Research and Markets’ “Global Data Center Colocation and Managed Hosting Services Market” report this year. The report predicts the overall market will grow at a 16.57 CAGR from 2012 to 2016, with SunGard listed among major players like AT&T, Level3 Communications, Rackspace and Verizon.

With revenue and customer growth in North America rising at 51 percent year-over-year, SunGard has certainly solidified their position as a market contender. The company’s Recovery Services also registered a whopping 145 percent year-over-year increase in sales based on the Recover2Cloud offering. The availability service helps customers manage replication as well as quickly recover large-scale virtualized environments.

"We're committed to meeting customers' needs in today's ever-changing market,” said Michael de la Torre, vice president of product management, SunGard Availability Services. “Offerings such as Recover2Cloud let us marry our recovery services prowess with the benefits that cloud computing offers."
