Virtualized Platforms for Managed Oracle Services Supported by SunGard Availability Services

By Laura Stotler

As part of its ongoing move toward managed services, SunGard Availability Services is now supporting virtualized platforms for its Managed Oracle Services. The announcement supports customers that are moving away from expensive dedicated infrastructures to scalable, multi-tenant setups.

The Managed Oracle Services run ERP applications as well as Oracle Databases with pre-certified Oracle server and storage hardware and software, otherwise known as Oracle Red Stack. SunGard will also be providing migration support to organizations as they transition from Oracle 11i to R12 with the next year.

As a strategic component of SunGard's suite of Managed Application Services, the Oracle offering lets customers choose from a wide range of service options. These include infrastructure, database and application services, and customers may also receive support with Oracle OS and hypervisor licensing through accurately scaled environments that efficiently support their existing needs.

Managed Oracle Services also offer technical support for the day-to-day management of the Oracle E-Business application environment, including databases and virtualized infrastructure. Infrastructure, comprised of Oracle servers and the ZFS storage arrays, is configurable to enable ERP users to manage performance and licensing requirements.

"We've worked with SunGard Availability Services for 12 years now, relying on them for management of our Oracle E-Business Suite," said Nicole Khoshnoud, vice president, accounting, DecisionQuest. The company is a SunGard Availability Services customer. "SunGard is an extension of our group that feels like part of our organization. They know who we are and have the relationship and expertise to consistently support our business."

"We're constantly seeking ways to help our customers optimize their environments while avoiding the headaches associated with application management," added Joe Sullivan, vice president, product management for managed services, SunGard Availability Services. "Extending our Oracle management services to virtualized platforms allows customers to leverage the benefits of scale and agility while allowing application managers to focus their time on the core business."
