Cisco Adds Cloud VPN and Security Services to Evolved Services Platform for Service Provider

By Laura Stotler

Cisco has expanded its Evolved Services Platform for virtualization and orchestration to deliver managed cloud VPN and security services. The platform is geared toward MSPs and enables them to provide virtualized and automated business services to the SMB market.

MSPs may take advantage of the platform to offer virtualized managed services affordably. Cisco’s solution uses software defined networking (SDN), network function virtualization (NFV) and multi-vendor orchestration and provisioning to help service providers save as much as 78 percent in operational costs. Cisco claims a virtualized approach also offers a 200 percent ROI over five years and slashes the startup time for rolling out new managed services to less than 48 hours.

"Our collaboration with Cisco allows us to be one of the first cable operators in the United States to offer comprehensive, world-class managed security services to enterprises and our key vertical market's in education, government, and healthcare,” said Craig Cowden, CNO and SVP of enterprise solutions, Bright House Networks. “Working with Cisco, we've already been able to quickly bring new security services to specific customers in the education vertical, while maximizing previous investment in our robust network."

The new cloud VPN solution enables MSPs to help customers scale their services on-demand, globally. It provides secure access from branches, site-to-site and through remote access VPNs. The offering also includes cloud managed auto VPN, WAN optimization, application control, content filtering and application firewall.

Features of the new security solution include nonstop, real-time monitoring for preventing malware, attacks and worms. The service supports event management through advanced monitoring as well as identification, alerts and issue mitigation and the ability to access and apply security information.

"Forward-thinking service providers are the enablers of the Internet of Everything (IoE), delivering innovative capabilities to new market segments," said Kelly Ahuja, senior vice president and general manager, Cisco Service Provider segment. "By leveraging Cisco technologies and our advanced Remote Management Services, service providers can now efficiently deliver the service capabilities SMBs desire while addressing a sizable untapped market opportunity to help grow their business."
