Carpathia Teams Up with Altiscale to Deliver Hadoop-as-a-Service

By Laura Stotler

Cloud operator and managed hosting services provider Carpathia has teamed up with Altiscale to deliver Hadoop-as-a-Service (HaaS). The company will offer Altiscale’s purpose-build Apache Hadoop Cloud as a service to enterprises, government agencies and SaaS providers looking to enhance their large-scale data processing capabilities.

Altiscale’s HaaS solution, the Altiscale Data Cloud, is available in Carpathia’s network of data centers through the partnership. The offering is a fully managed service optimized for Hadoop that provides always-on access to customer data as well as proactive monitoring of jobs, for a predictable monthly price.

Carpathia and Altiscale have also aligned their on-boarding and support processes to offer a better, streamlined customer experience. The HaaS solution is well suited for government agencies and has been specifically engineered to meet federal requirements, processing data quickly and ensuring mission-critical availability.

"Hadoop is becoming critical for businesses as they seek to make sense of unstructured data, accelerate queries on massive datasets, uncover hidden trends, and enhance insights for predictive modeling," said Raymie Stata, CEO, Altiscale. "The Carpathia partnership and the Altiscale Data Cloud free customers from the infrastructural and operational burdens of Hadoop, allowing them to quickly scale and pay only for the Hadoop resources they use."

Altiscale also recently partnered with MarketShare to target CMOs. MarketShare, which offers advanced marketing analytics, has integrated the Altiscale Data Cloud with their Marketshare 360 offering. The HaaS offering differentiates the company’s solution by helping them deliver a real-time, latency-free performance.

The Hadoop and big data analytics market, including HaaS, is growing at a phenomenal rate according to Markets and Markets. The company forecasts the sector will reach $13.9 billion by 2017, representing a 54.9 percent CAGR from 2012. Vertical industries like banking and finance, manufacturing, biotechnology and defense are major market drivers, as well as enterprise data warehouse providers.
