MSP and Colocation Provider OneNeck IT Spends $12 Million to Expand Minnesota Data Center

By Laura Stotler

Supporting increasing customer demand for additional space, OneNeck IT solutions is expanding its Certified Tier III data center in Eden Prairie, MN in a $12 million project. The data center will house around 18,000 square feet of raised floor capacity and a variety of new equipment and features when complete.

OneNeck is adding 6,000 square feet of floor space with support for around 4 MW of critical load on the computer room floor in the expansion project. New features will include power distribution units, switchgear, fire suppression, new security systems and cameras.

"We are excited construction is underway and look forward to completing the project by mid-year on what will soon be one of the largest commercially available Tier III data center in the region," said Phil LaForge, president and CEO of OneNeck. "Investing in our data center just makes sense. We are nearing capacity at the current facility and want to ensure our customers, and businesses throughout the region, have the space they need for future growth."

The new design, being performed by local contractors, will add a number of interesting new features designed to maintain the facility’s SSAE16 classification. These include biometric iris scanners to enable personal identification and precast concrete and steel reinforced walls able to withstand strong tornadoes and weather events. The facility will also be equipped with a Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA) fire detection system.

OneNeck has had a busy year, changing its name from TDS Hosted & Managed Services, LLC earlier this month to emphasize the company’s focus on managed IT infrastructure, cloud solutions and colocation and managed services. The company united its hosted and managed services companies under a single brand with the name change and has been working on building out its data centers and next-generation service offerings. OneNeck owns and manages three additional Tier III data centers and two Tier II data centers.

"For our customers, this certification provides peace of mind because it guarantees uptime availability," said LaForge of the expanded Eden Prairie facility. "Many customers need production environment assurances and guarantees the data center will also be operational so they can run mission-critical applications anytime. Attaining and maintaining Tier III status provides them that certainty."
