Managed service provider (MSP) DoubleHorn Communications has been awarded a large cloud services contract by the State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR). Through the agreement, the company will deliver three types of cloud services to Texas state organizations.
DoubleHorn was awarded based on its successful track record of service delivery as well as company viability, customer references and case studies. The MSP will deliver cloud assessment services, cloud brokerage services and cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) to the state through the arrangement.
Governments throughout the world, from the municipal to federal level, are increasingly adopting cloud computing solutions for their cost savings, convenience and scalability. Market Research Media forecasts the global government cloud computing market will produce $118 billion in revenues from 2015 to 2020, growing at a healthy 6.7 percent CAGR. IaaS is a hot area of adoption, with many service providers using CloudMPLS to deliver reliable and secure networking bandwidth.
The assessment solutions are centered on planning, migration and managing ongoing operations of state cloud deployments. DoubleHorn will gather requirements, take an inventory of organizations’ existing IT portfolios and develop a plan for cloud migration as part of its managed services.
Cloud brokerage services will include delivering solutions from multiple providers through a single bill and service level agreement (SLA). The MSP provides managed, private and public cloud services as well as technical support for Amazon, Google Cloud, IBM, Rackspace, Savvis and Terremark.
On the cloud IaaS front, DoubleHorn will provide secure cloud infrastructure and technical support. The MSP offers a Data Center Cloud Platform that is geographically redundant in Texas and part of the company’s carrier-grade fiber/MPLS network. DoubleHorn believes cloud IaaS is a good fit for state organizations that need a secure and known environment of physical servers as well as insight about their architecture and management.
"We are already receiving requests for proposals from state agencies, which indicates to us that there is a real desire for them to become more efficient and productive while also saving money,” said Tab Schadt, CEO of DoubleHorn, about the contract. “We are delighted that, as a Texas-based business, we are able to provide these important services within our state and in other states, as well."
