A new partnership designed to provide improved website performance and reduced latency among data centers and end users has been announced by 1&1 Internet, Ltd. And CloudFlare. CloudFlare’s technology will be used by the hosting provider to offer better performance and greater availability of websites for its customers.
By working with CloudFlare, 1&1 is aiming to deliver a flawless user experience to its website customers, and particularly those with geographically disparate visitors. With organizations becoming increasingly pressured to serve up web content quickly and efficiently regardless of user location, the partnership provides unique benefits to both 1&1 and their customer base.
The CloudFlare content delivery network (CDN) is run out of 23 global data centers. It is designed to automatically cache static files at edge nodes, storing them close to visitors while also delivering dynamic content directly from users’ web servers. The solution then uses the Anycast technology to route visitors to the nearest data center, enabling websites to load twice as fast for visitors, no matter where they are located.
The new partnership further builds on the CloudFlare CDN within 1&1 web hosting packages, utilizing the company’s Mirage and Railgun optimization solutions. Mirage automatically checks users’ connection type and the screen size a website will be viewed in to properly evaluate if images are being effectively displayed. Image files are then rendered properly, whether the site is viewed via mobile, desktop, tablet or laptop devices.
The Railgun solution is designed to boost connection and delivery speed for web content that was formerly unable to be cached. While dynamic content was previously labeled “uncachable,” CloudFlare’s technique identifies and delivers incremental changes quickly. This enables dynamic websites to offer better response rates, no matter where visitors are geographically located.
"1&1 has been eager to collaborate with an innovative CDN such as CloudFlare in order to further strengthen our web hosting platform for both businesses and developers worldwide,” said Robert Hoffmann, CEO Hosting, 1&1 Internet. “Impressive website experience, improved traffic and reduced bounce rates are all tangible results that customers gain from such a strong partnership. CloudFlare will deliver new advanced CDN features to us in the coming months."
