The cloud computing market has experienced volatility in recent times, characterized by provider shakeups and license price hikes. Several smaller cloud providers have faced challenges, with some struggling to compete against the dominant players like AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform. These larger providers have used their scale and immense resources to offer competitive pricing and a wider range of services (which makes it difficult for smaller players to gain market share).
In addition to provider consolidation, the market has also witnessed a series of license price increases from major cloud providers. A survey of IT professionals by cloud provider Civo revealed that nearly 60% of organizations reported an increase in cloud costs over the past year. Moreover, a large portion of those facing price hikes saw their expenses jump by more than a quarter.
These hikes have raised concerns among businesses and organizations that rely heavily on cloud services, as they impact their IT budgets. While the providers may argue that the increases are necessary to fund ongoing investments in infrastructure and innovation, many customers are facing increased costs without corresponding improvements in service quality or value.
Therefore, taking into consideration the price hikes as well as the demands of today’s customers, US Signal (a digital infrastructure provider and portfolio company of Igneo Infrastructure Partners) launched its breakthrough Infrastructure-as-a-Service product: OpenCloud.
US Signal specializes in offering a wide array of managed and professional services, including network connectivity, cloud hosting, colocation, data protection and disaster recovery solutions, all designed to optimize and safeguard business resources.
As for OpenCloud, it is based on the open-source project Apache CloudStack. Apache CloudStack is an open-source cloud computing platform that provides a comprehensive solution for building and managing private and hybrid clouds. It offers a flexible and scalable architecture that allows organizations to deploy virtual machines, networks and storage resources on-demand. Its user-friendly interface and automation capabilities make it a popular choice for businesses seeking to leverage the benefits of cloud computing without relying on proprietary solutions.
OpenCloud also offers a flexible approach to cloud computing. With no long-term contracts, you can scale your resources up or down to match your business needs. This pay-as-you-go model ensures customers only pay for the services they actually use.
Additionally, OpenCloud provides support from a U.S.-based technical team, included at no extra cost. And unlike some other providers, OpenCloud is shielded from future licensing price increases.
"US Signal OpenCloud is an Infrastructure-as-a-Service platform that revolutionizes the cloud hosting market by providing the performance, cost certainty, security and flexible consumption that customers demand to run their critical enterprise workloads," said John White, Chief Operating Officer at US Signal.
The first deployments of OpenCloud are live in US Signal's data centers in Detroit and Denver. These concurrently maintainable facilities ensure top-tier performance and security for the critical data needs of the enterprise. OpenCloud is available for immediate adoption with multiple migration tools available.
In Q1 2025, US Signal plans to expand the OpenCloud platform with additional services, including low-RPO Managed DRaaS and DaaS offerings.
