Barracuda's SASE Offering Elevates Enterprise and MSP Networks

By Greg Tavarez

Organizations are grappling with a paradigm where most users, devices, applications, services and data reside outside their traditional enterprise boundaries. Unfortunately, attempts to secure this ubiquitous, "anytime access" using conventional perimeter-based approaches have led to a tangled web of vendors, policies, consoles and intricate traffic-routing efforts. This puts a burden on security administrators and end-users with unnecessary complexity.

Recognizing the pressing need for a solution, the industry seeks an identity-aware and context-aware network and security access fabric that can seamlessly connect users, devices and locations across the entire spectrum. Simultaneously, it must provide secure access to the enterprise's digital resources from any corner of the globe.

This demand for universal, unrestricted access for every user, device or location necessitates the adoption of a cloud-centric SASE capability. According to Gartner, single-vendor SASE offerings deliver multiple converged network and security as-a-service capabilities, such as SD-WAN, secure web gateway, cloud access security broker, network firewalling and zero trust network access, using a cloud-centric architecture.

And organizations are embracing SASE. That same Gartner report revealed that by 2025, 80% of enterprises will have adopted a strategy to unify web, cloud services and private application access using a SASE/SSE architecture, up from 20% in 2021. With SASE, organizations embrace a transformative approach that brings together cloud technology and security.

Speaking of cloud technology and security, Barracuda, a provider of cloud-first security solutions, strives to make the world a safer place by protecting email, networks, data and applications with innovative solutions that grow and adapt with their customers' journeys. Building on that commitment, Barracuda announced a new platform called Barracuda SecureEdge, a SASE solution that helps make hybrid and remote work easier to secure.

Barracuda's new SecureEdge platform offers enhanced security, improved performance and simplified management for hybrid and remote work environments. With multi-layered network protection, users enjoy consistent policy enforcement regardless of their location. The platform effectively safeguards against web-based threats and enables secure remote access with zero trust principles. Additionally, it optimizes cloud and application access through secure SD-WAN capabilities.

The key features of SecureEdge include comprehensive control and visibility, simplified operations through intent-based networking, multiple levels of security and connectivity and built-in optimization for network traffic. This platform empowers businesses and MSPs to secure and streamline their remote work processes effectively.

Integrating Barracuda's Secure SD-WAN, firewall-as-a-service, zero trust network access and secure web gateway capabilities, the single-vendor solution enables businesses and MSPs to strengthen their security posture and help to reduce costs. Delivered as a service, Barracuda SecureEdge secures users, sites and IoT devices, is easy to manage and connects any device, application and cloud/hybrid environment.

"With SecureEdge, Barracuda offers a cloud-native SASE platform that enables customers to control access to data from any device, anytime, anywhere, and allows security inspection and policy enforcement in the cloud, at the branch or on the device,” said Tim Jefferson, Senior Vice President, Engineering for Data, Network and Application Security at Barracuda.

Barracuda SecureEdge is available for customers, partners and MSPs.
