INAP Patents Next-Generation Routing Software, Managed Internet Route Optimizer

Internap Network Services Corporation (INAP) has rebuilt its patented MIRO software to optimize cloud and hosting traffic even faster, resulting in improved application performance. 


INAP has created quite a portfolio for itself. It includes a full range of hybrid Internet infrastructure services that allow companies to mix and match and build their businesses to scale across a global footprint - including virtual and physical cloud capabilities, hosting and colocation. These services are underpinned by high performance, based on Internap's Performance IP connectivity and Content Delivery Network (CDN), which both incorporate its unique MIRO technology. 

According to its press release, the updated version of INAP’s, intelligent routing software named Managed Internet Route Optimizer (MIRO) optimizes network traffic for applications and content running on its cloud, hosting, and colocation services – delivering traffic at an average of two to three times faster than other internet carriers, with more than 1,300 traffic optimizations per customer per hour. In addition, Internap has enhanced its CDN with a new HTTP caching engine for increased performance, and improved flexibility for content security, reseller functions, and more.

“For organizations relying on a new generation of real-time, data-intensive applications, network reliability and performance are increasingly relevant for their business success and end-user satisfaction,” said Steve Orchard, senior vice president and general manager of data center and network services at Internap. “Our next-gen MIRO technology clears an optimized path through the congestion of today’s Internet, consistently delivering performance without compromise for our cloud and infrastructure customers.”

Now, this might not seem like a big deal, but INAP claims that any other network carrier provider currently in the industry provides the optimal path for their customers’ traffic less than 20 percent of the time. This is in contrast to Internap’s enhanced MIRO, which delivers Internet traffic over the best path more than 99% of the time by analyzing performance characteristics like jitter, latency and packet loss across global Internet routes and making more frequent, rapid routing adjustments. 

Internap is currently deploying enhanced MIRO across its POPs worldwide. This deployment is expected to complete by the end of the second quarter.
