GoDaddy Launches Managed WordPress Platform, Hosting Services

By Laura Stotler

GoDaddy has expanded its managed hosting services by teaming up with WordPress. The Web hosting giant is launching a brand new Managed WordPress platform dedicated to optimizing the WordPress content management system (CMS), which will go live tomorrow.

GoDaddy is already managing nearly two million WordPress websites, giving the company extensive experience with the CMS. The hosting company built its Managed WordPress offering from scratch, using its extensive experience working with and managing WordPress.

The new optimized Managed WordPress lets users focus on their content creation while GoDaddy takes care of the back-end technical details. This includes all management of the web hosting account like server setup, security, daily backups and performance optimization. The company incorporated its customers’ requests, solicited feedback from web professionals and also worked with WordPress experts when creating its new managed service.

"GoDaddy is committed to supporting the WordPress community with one of the fastest, most secure and reliable hosting platforms," said Bill Watt, director of hosting product management at GoDaddy. "The team created a product that is easy-to-use and is robust and scalable as an enterprise-level service.”

The solution will be officially launched tomorrow at WordCamp Phoenix, touted as “A Weekend of WordPress Awesomeness.” The three-day tournament celebrates the WordPress community and includes workshops, presentations, parties and other events designed to bring together technology professionals, enthusiasts and vendors.

Event participants have already been testing the product prior to the event so they may give appropriate feedback to engineers and designers. The community feedback will be used to make continuous improvements to the offering.

"GoDaddy's WordPress solution has really taken the Waste Management Phoenix Open website to the next level," said Tom King, chairman of Waste Management Phoenix Open Tournament. "We have had flawless performance since we started using the service. Our tournament is just around the corner and we completely trust GoDaddy to help us deliver a fast and reliable website, regardless of how many spikes in traffic we get."

Features of the new GoDaddy Managed WordPress solution include automatic updates with the latest version of WordPress as well as added layers of security like firewalls, malware scanning and security patching. All features are supported by GoDaddy’s security team and include continuous monitoring.

The new service also uses load-balanced servers dedicated to WordPress that provide multiple caching layers and redundant SSD-backed file and database servers. This ensures fast page load as well as high scalability for handling spikes in traffic. A one-click migration tool enables users to easily transfer their WordPress sites to GoDaddy.
