IaaS Provider Unitas Global Partners with Equinix on Data Center Cloud and Managed Services

By Laura Stotler
IaaS provider Unitas Global has partnered with data center powerhouse Equinix in a deal that will enable Unitas to offer fully managed IT solutions. As an Equinix Solution Partner, Unitas will provide its private cloud and managed services to customers inside Equinix data centers.

Unitas’ offerings include the design, deployment and management of customer IT infrastructure. The partnership helps Equinix offer their customers managed, custom-built private cloud solutions on an enterprise level, something the data center provider received high demand for.

Equinix clients may take advantage of Unitas managed services in more than 95 data centers in 31 markets. Engineers will monitor and manage customer environments via 24x7 Support Operations Centers based across three continents.

"Unitas Global's 'boutique' mentality provides clients with a custom, flexible, and personalized experience with an expert IaaS provider, while producing economies of scale for growing organizations," said Scott Walker, vice president of Global Indirect Channels & Alliances. He added that the company’s experience in the finance, retail, gaming and healthcare sectors was also a compelling factor in the decision to partner with them.

Unitas’ single source solution is largely based on the company’s Enterprise Private Cloud service. That includes design of complex IT environments for clients, with an emphasis on collaborating and communicating with customers throughout the process, and through deployment and management. IT architectures are vendor and service provider agnostic and are managed through the MISSIONCONTROL unified management platform. This gives clients visibility and control of IT resources through a single dashboard offering global views of multiple data centers all the way through to lone virtual machines.

Equinix has been ramping up their partner initiatives of late, and last month the company announced an expanded partnership with IaaS giant Amazon Web Services (AWS). That deal provided new connectivity options at Equinix data centers throughout the world, while enabling Equinix to offer additional AWS connectivity through its Ethernet Exchange.

For its part, Unitas is one of many IaaS providers building up their businesses to offer a competitive alternative to AWS. In March, the company successfully migrated a mobile gaming company from AWS to their custom, managed Enterprise Private Cloud, saving the customer approximately 30 percent per month. The company has migrated several additional customers from AWS since with reports of cost savings and improved efficiencies.
