Datapipe Seizes Emerging Cloud Market Opportunities with New Presence in Singapore

Infrastructure and managed services provider (MSP) Datapipe has expanded its presence in Asia with new data center facilities and business offices in Singapore. The service provider, which specializes in cloud computing and outsourced IT services, already has a presence in Hong Kong that extends to mainland China as well as data center facilities in Shanghai.

The newly established presence in Singapore extends the MSP’s reach into three of the most strategic locations in the Asia-Pacific region. Capturing that market may prove crucial to MSPs and cloud services providers (CSPs) as Asia represents a major revenue opportunity for a variety of managed and cloud computing solutions.

IDC estimates spending on public cloud services in Asia-Pacific will grow nearly fivefold by 2016, reaching $19.5 billion. That number could be pushed even higher based on enterprise adoption of private cloud technologies along with service provider consumption of IT professional services.

Gartner also singles out the Asia-Pacific region as an emerging area with a high growth rate for cloud services, even though it represents a small overall market currently. China, however, defies that description and represents both a large and growing market.

"IT services providers, particularly those focused on delivering cloud services offerings or related services, must consider these disproportionately large mature markets if they want to play a leading role in cloud services growth worldwide," said Ed Anderson, research director at Gartner. "Similarly, markets in emerging Asia-Pacific, greater China and Latin America should also be important considerations for IT services providers that want to capitalize on the high growth of these regions, particularly Latin America and greater China."

"Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai are the preferred locations for multinational companies to establish their headquarters in the APAC region," said Robb Allen, Datapipe CEO. "This expansion enables us to directly service our enterprise clients in all three locations."

The company’s managed cloud services include the Stratosphere High Performance Compute Cloud, Datapipe Managed Amazon Web Services (AWS) and AWS Direct Connect, which is geared toward hybrid cloud solutions. Datapipe plans to leverage Singapore’s fiber-rich network infrastructure and variety of connectivity options for data center to data center connectivity.
