Virtela, which does cloud services and managed security among other services, has garnered the prestigious Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award from TMC. The award focused on Virtela’s private cloud and virtual data centers.
TMC chooses winners based on their ability to innovate in the areas of voice, data and video.
The offering that took the cake was Virtela's Managed IT Infrastructure Services. These services include predictive analytics as well as automation.
These technologies help Virtela manage leading edge data centers and ensure the network is speedy and secure.
Another aspect is problem resolution and here Virtela claims its technology can solve some 95% of network problems before they affect the quality of service.
“Virtela opens 99% of trouble tickets proactively and resolves 95% of issues on the first call. More than 97% of customer survey respondents in 2012 said they were highly satisfied or satisfied with the courtesy of the Virtela technical operations staff, and 95% were highly satisfied or satisfied with Virtela's resolution of their issues, highlighting the company's passion for support,” the company said.
Virtela believes its mission is making IT and the cloud easier and more effective. “By speeding and simplifying the ongoing operation of these virtualized or cloud environments, Virtela's services not only improve operational efficiencies, but free up IT resources to focus on strategic business initiatives,” said Ron Haigh, president of Virtela.
Virtela and the WAN
Virtela recently found its way into Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for WAN optimization, and was given visionary status. WAN optimization is just one of Virtela’s businesses. It also has mobile device management, security, transport and managed networks.
With this range of wares, Gartner believes Virtela may be appropriate for enterprises wanting to outsource the whole wide area network shebang.
What made Virtela so magic? “Virtela provides a comprehensive product offering for enterprise branch and cloud-based (including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud [EC2], Rackspace Cloud, HP Cloud and IBM Cloud) application delivery,” Gartner says, adding the company backs the service with performance-based SLAs.
Speed is also of Virtela’s essence. “Virtela's offering provides the ability to rapidly deploy services (in minutes) for cloud-based services in 190 countries worldwide,” Gartner said.
Moving to the negative, Virtela is not that well known, though truth be known, its service is often white labeled.
In 2010, just like this year, Virtela received the Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award from TMC.
The overall WAN optimization market is looking pretty good. Last year, according to IDC, that market was expected to have hit $1.3 billion, and grew faster than the overall market for network gear.
