Cloud Backup Services to Be Available to Dimension Data CaaS Customers

By Laura Stotler

New Cloud Backup optional backup and recovery services have been announced by MSP Dimension Data. The offerings are available as an add-on to the company's public, private and hosted private Compute-as-a-Service (CaaS) offerings.

The new services let customers backup their files, folders, systems, applications and other data to Dimension Data's cloud data centers. This is meant to provide protection as well as business continuity for enterprise-class workloads.

The CloudBackup services are being offered in three configurations to meet a variety of needs for all sized businesses. The Cloud Backup Essentials solution provides file and folder backup and restoration, while the Cloud Backup Advanced offering handles file, folder and system state backup and restoration. The Cloud Backup Enterprise service goes further, providing file, folder, system state and application backup and restoration.

The services are available as an option for Dimension Data's CaaS users, which they may select as they provision their cloud environments. The company's Managed Cloud Platform supports public and private cloud services through a common user interface and API. The CloudControl cloud management system features self-service provisioning, configuration and management of cloud servers, networking and tiered storage. All offerings are meant to be fast and easy-to-use as well as highly secure.

Dimension Data also provides cloud consulting services and specialized support for data center and contact center solutions, networking and converged communications. The MSP has six public cloud data centers in the U.S., Europe, Asia Pacific, Australia and the Middle East and Africa regions.

"Cloud users often manage their backup in-house, which can be complicated and costly," said Steve Nola, Cloud Business Unit CEO at Dimension Data. "By offering the integrated Cloud Backup service, Dimension Data enables businesses to back up whole applications while providing assurance that historical data is secure and easy to access."

The new Cloud Backup Services will be available in October on Managed Cloud Platforms in the U.S. and Australia. The company plans to roll out services to its other global locations by the end of the year. The service will be priced at $10 per cloud server, plus 10 cents per GB of data storage per month. Customers may set up the service using Dimension Data's CloudControl Web UI or API.
