SolarWinds MSPs Ready for N-able? Not so Fast, LabTech Fights for Partners

By Doug Barney

This week, SolarWinds sealed the deal on its $120 million acquisition of remote monitoring and management (RMM) maker N-able.

Not wanting to be lost in the shuffle, LabTech is a making a major play for SolarWinds/N-able MSPs, arguing that when it comes to RMM, LabTech is more than N-able.

LabTech is putting on a full court press, using the old fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) and trying to convince MSPs to “Let LabTech Protect Your IT Business from the Winds of Change.”

Like any good marketer (or politician) LabTech is planting seeds of doubt. “The acquisition has also created uncertainty. Will N-able’s focus shift away from MSPs? Where is the vision headed? How will N-able’s software change without an RMM pioneer at the helm?” LabTech asks.

This editor has covered SolarWinds and N-able for years. They are both serious players who are even more serious together. I doubt that SolarWinds shelled out way north of $100 million to bail on an already established MSP channel.

But if LabTech has you second guessing, it has an easy answer. “Consider looking at the RMM platform that is committed to MSPs. LabTech is the only RMM platform designed to work the way you work, because it was built by an MSP specifically for MSPs. And because we came from the MSP space, be assured that we will remain committed and loyal to our partners,” the company argued.

Part of the LabTech argument is economic. By switching over through its competitive replacement program, “IT solution providers regularly see a savings up to 48 percent off their RMM monthly payments as a result of discounts during implementation and our competitive replacement pricing program,” LabTech argued.

LabTech MSP Play

LabTech is right arguing that it was built by MSPs for MSPs. To solidify its MSP play, the company recently announced its Partner Innovation Network (PIN). This MSP channel program isn’t just for new partners, but is also built to deepen relationships with current associates.

"When our partners make the decision to purchase LabTech as their remote monitoring and management platform, that should really only be the beginning," said Matt Nachtrab, LabTech Software CEO, when they released the PIN. "The new Partner Innovation Network is our way of creating a deeper connection to our global community of talented IT professionals, collaborating with them in an exchange of knowledge and expertise about what it takes to provide superior managed services."

Partners can now have “access to upcoming strategies and technologies, including participation in quarterly business reviews, focus groups and councils that are designed to promote partner-driven innovation and test emerging technologies via LabTech Software's pilot program,” LabTech explained.
