Coriant to Build Transport Infrastructure for Racks Central

By Michael Guta

The deployment of each new data center incorporates lessons learned from previous facilities to optimize every aspect of the infrastructure, with the eventual goal of improving overall operational efficiency. This includes being able to provide innovative services with reliability so customers can access the resources they need at all times. As a provider of premium grade data center space and managed services for the Asia-Pacific region, Racks Central has selected Coriant to build a transport infrastructure that will interconnect major data centers in Singapore.

Singapore is one of the financial hubs of the Asia-Pacific region, which greatly depends on state of the art data centers to deliver modern services such as cloud computing, big data, high-performance computing, enterprise mobility and social and collaborative computing.

To make this possible, Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end packet optical networking solutions, will build a resilient and flexible transport infrastructure to connect the major data centers in Singapore using its 7100 Pico Packet Optical Transport Platform, Pluggable Optical Layer and the Groove G30 DCI Platform.

With these technologies in place, Racks Central will have the capability to go from 10 Gbps to 1 Tbps for inter-data center capacity, which will allow it to expand its portfolio of carrier grade connectivity and data center services. One of the primary reasons for the expansion is the growing demand for cloud communications in the Asia-Pacific region.

"As enterprises and OTT providers throughout Asia Pacific increasingly rely on cloud and data center connectivity for their business success, the demand for flexible and reliable interconnect services is rapidly growing," said Petri Markkanen, Regional Vice President, Asia Pacific, Coriant.”

With 5G networks only several years away, Racks Central and all data centers will have to upgrade their infrastructure in order to cope with the billions of connected devices in the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem, as well as the services that consumers and businesses will be accessing.

"To provide value-added data center connectivity solutions along with our collocation services, Coriant is an ideal partner for Racks Central, and their best-in-class DCI solution enhances our ability to quickly respond to our customers’ evolving service needs and capacity requirements very cost effectively," said Bobby Wee, Chief Executive Officer, Racks Central.

The Coriant DCI Platform is a stackable transport solution for cloud and data center networks that delivers 3.2 Tbps of capacity throughput in a compact 1RU form factor. This gives Rack Central the ability to deploy a wide range of resilient Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity services, including 10G, 40G, and 100G client services. It can also support highly scalable Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) line rates of 100G/150G/200G so Racks Central can maximize high-capacity transmission in DCI applications.

Currently, Racks Central is a carrier-neutral data center offering co-location and managed service solutions to leading carrier, ISP, large enterprise and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) customers. Coriant will give it the technology to provide high-performance connectivity between major carrier-neutral data center facilities in Singapore with a small footprint and hyper-scalability with the deployment of Data Center Interconnect (DCI).
