InterCloud Systems Nabs Two-year Managed Cloud Services Deal with Brooklyn Hospital Center

By Laura Stotler

Cloud and managed services provider (MSP) InterCloud Systems Inc. has inked a new two-year deal with Brooklyn Hospital Center. The company will provide consulting, network design and implementation services to the hospital as well as managing its networking elements and resources.

The larger plan is for InterCloud to migrate the hospital from older legacy equipment and technologies to a cloud-based architecture complete with unified communications and VoIP infrastructure. The MSP is staffing the hospital with dedicated engineers as well, who will manage infrastructure and ongoing services and help the hospital achieve better performance and five-nines of reliability.

The healthcare sector is in a prime position to adopt cloud computing as organizations struggle to meet compliance mandates and increasingly complex security and privacy challenges. A new Research and Markets report shows that cloud computing within the healthcare space will grow at a healthy CAGR of 20.5 percent from 2012 through 2017.

Research shows that hospitals, health clinics and doctors’ offices require quick access to computing and large data storage facilities, which are typically not feasible within traditional setups. Data also needs to be shared among various locations and geographies quickly and securely. Cloud computing and managed services can cater to these needs while enabling cost savings and operational efficiencies.

"Our goal over the last year has been to transform the hospital's infrastructure, applications and serviceability, so that we can better serve our patients and internal customers, such as doctors, nurses and staff,” said Bill Moran, SVP/CIO of Brooklyn Hospital Center. “Data center upgrades, the use of cloud services and new systems around meta orchestration will help us elevate to the next level.”

In unrelated news, Cisco announced their long awaited InterCloud hybrid cloud solution as part of their ongoing commitment to supporting an open-source partner-centric cloud model. Use of the term “InterCloud” denotes interoperability among public, private and hybrid cloud models and the increasing popularity of the term is a testament to how broad and diverse cloud computing adoption has become.
