Business Intelligence Viewed Through Shiny New Dashboard

Business Intelligence Viewed Through Shiny New Dashboard

By Doug Barney

Making sense of business intelligence is often best done through a dashboard. Here you can get high level views of trends and dive down into the deeper details.

ConnectSMART thinks about this all the time, and this week it released its latest dashboard aimed at service providers – in fact, aimed only at service providers.

The tool is suited for service providers already using professional service automation (PSA) and remote monitoring management (RMM) and integrates visibility into these tools. Items with particular visibility include performance, how well the staff is used, and profitability.

Speaking of these tools, the new version of ConnectSMART works with the latest releases from Kaseya, LabTech and ConnectWise.

The RMM space has lately been subject to vicious competition and price wars. Seems like every RMM vendor will do what it takes to gain MSP partners.

Getting back to the news at hand, ConnectSMART also has a subscription-based Developer Edition add-on. This “allows users to connect to virtually any application or database. If a gadget is not included in ConnectSMART out-of-the-box, a user can now create new gadgets with easier drill down functionality,” the company said.

In addition to building gadgets, the Developer Edition plugin is an integration tool, connecting with Web services, Microsoft PowerShell and SQL databases. Custom integrations can be built as well, such as to Cisco or Shoretel gear.

“Our most creative clients have already leveraged this new tool to create some cool and unique gadgets,” said Dan Martin, Vice President, ConnectSMART.

Here are some of the things the company said is in version 3.09 of its dashboard:

  • New Installer: Experience even easier upgrades and installations – upgrade in minutes with all of your customizations backed up.
  • Updated Integrations: ConnectSMART now supports users of the most recent ConnectWise version, 2013.3, along with added functionality/support for the latest versions of Kaseya and LabTech.
  • Developer Edition Gadgets: ConnectWise Premise, TigerPaw, Labtech and Kaseya users now have easy-to-use developer gadgets built right into the User Interface – no more requirements for PowerShell scripting to get drilldown capability.

The company said it builds products based on what its MSPs want: “ConnectSMART was designed in response to feedback from the MSP service community. Our goal is to help MSPs better run their businesses,” said Martin. “Our software integrates data from numerous sources, making performance and productivity clearly measurable and accessible. With ConnectSMART you always know how you’re doing.”
