AMD Server Certified for Rackspace Private Cloud

AMD Server Certified for Rackspace Private Cloud

By Erin Harrison

In October, Rackspace began offering certifications for Rackspace Private Cloud Partners due to demand from companies to certify their products, hardware or software products. Since that time, several of Rackspace’s Private Cloud Partners have become certified for the Rackspace Private Cloud. The most recent addition to this growing roster is AMD, which announced that its SeaMicro SM15000 server is certified for the Rackspace Private Cloud.

The AMD SeaMicro SM15000 server has been certified for the following Rackspace Private Cloud reference architectures: OpenStack Compute (a.k.a. “Nova in a Box”), which scales horizontally and integrates with legacy systems and third-party technologies; and OpenStack Object Store (“Swift in a Rack”), which provides a scalable, redundant storage system.

Nova in a Box and Swift in a Rack are the most efficient compute and highest storage capacity solutions validated for OpenStack, according to Andrew Feldman, corporate vice president and general manager of AMD Data Center Server Solutions.

“The combination of Rackspace Private Cloud and AMD SeaMicro servers will change the way the industry deploys and manages large pools of compute,” Feldman said in a statement.

The product certification for mass compute and object storage certifies that enterprise deployments of Rackspace Private Cloud on AMD’s SeaMicro SM15000 servers are a proven and rigorously tested solution, Feldman added.

There are two types of Rackspace product certifications available:

  • Technology Alliance Program: Designed for hardware and platform vendors that provide products and solutions in conjunction with Rackspace Private Cloud. Technology Alliance Partners include compute, hardware, storage hardware, networking, operating systems and management tools.  Rackspace engineers work with partner teams to provide detailed testing criteria in QA and validation labs to validate compatibility.
  • “Built For” Program: Designed for software vendors building applications that run in the guest virtual machines or manages the application workloads on a Rackspace Private Cloud. Rackspace provides a testing suite and a hosted validation environment that confirms the compatibility of the application with Rackspace Private Cloud.

As a part of The Rackspace Open Cloud platform, the company launched the Rackspace Private Cloud Software in August 2012 with thousands of organizations in over 125 countries downloading the product.

“We are seeing rapid adoption of Rackspace Private Cloud Software powered by OpenStack,” said Paul Rad, vice president, Private Cloud, Rackspace. “The AMD SeaMicro SM 15000 system offers Rackspace Private Cloud customers unprecedented density, storage capacity and performance, bringing enterprises one step closer to running the cloud in their own data centers.”
