Pinacl to Build Wi-Fi Network in York

By Rahul Arora

Pinacl Solutions, a managed service provider, recently announced that it will build and install a public, free access, Wi-Fi network in York for the City of York Council in England.

The five-year contract will require Pinacl to create a rollout plan during the first 18 months in three phases. Pinacl will install a network of key access points in agreed priority city center locations and key city entry points. The first phase of the contract will be completed in time for the Tour De France.

Pinacl claims that it specializes in a number of key technologies, such as unified communications, Wi-Fi, data management, and WAN network services wrapped in a “security blanket.” Pinacl clients include The Trafford Center, United Biscuits and British Aerospace, together with leading public sector organizations such as The British Museum, Wiltshire Police Authority, the Health & Safety Laboratories, Reading Borough Council and Clatterbridge Cancer Center.

“This unique blend of city center and strategic transport free Wi-Fi is a key element of our ambitious digital plan,” said Roy Grant, Head of ICT at City of York Council, in a press release. “And we see Wi-Fi as a key enabler of a thriving business community, and an essential service for both our residents and the 7.1 million annual visitors to York, as well as a key driver for council information services.”

“We have worked with City of York as its managed service provider for the past 4 years and our proven ability in wireless solutions and the way in which we work closely with our key partners, Ruckus, Purple Wi-Fi and City Fibre Holdings, contributed to our winning this business. We are delighted that we have once again met City of York’s high standards,” said Mark Lowe, Strategic Relationship Director, Pinacl Solutions, in a press release.
