MobiLINK 1.0 Delivers BYOD Security Solution

By Jacqueline Lee

Organizations of all sizes now have a solution that will enable them to connect their mobile workforce to internal Web-enabled applications utilizing a BYOD policy.

MobiLINK 1.0, developed by Route1, Inc., utilizes public key infrastructure (PKI) technology to allow devices to connect securely over an unsecure network, like the public Internet. By using certificates to create a secure TLS connection, MobiLINK enables secure connections between mobile devices and intranet.

PKI works by encrypting information and issuing two keys. One key is public, and the other is private. The information encrypted with one key can only be decrypted with the other key.

A public key is created when a certificate authority issues a public key certificate to an individual user. That certificate data is then signed with the private key of the issuer. Recipients can use the private key to identify the signer and prove that the certificate hasn’t been altered.

As a result, an employee using MobiLINK can log into an employer’s intranet. The employer’s device will present a security certificate, which the employer’s system will verify. Centralized policy management tools authorize different application entitlements.

A big advantage with MobiLINK is that IT doesn’t have to manage a set of internal profilers, such as Active Directory, to allow users to access internal applications. Network configuration and proxy settings become less complicated.

MobiLINK security utilizes multi-factor authentication and 256-bit AES encryption. RSA SHA-1 and SHA-2 signing algorithms are virtually un-forgeable and invulnerable to attack.

When employees access the system, no URLs are visible to the Internet or to the user. Route1 cannot see anything within the user’s secure connection, and no other applications, devices or operating systems can access the employee’s certificate. MobiLINK leaves no footprint concerning the secure information session on the employee’s device.

Route1 has created security solutions for the U.S. Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Energy. The company has also worked with the Government of Canada.
