A representative from IT management software company ManageEngine presented a pair of interesting case studies to an audience taking a break from showroom browsing at the recent ITEXPO 2023 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
"We specialize in managing, marketing and securing your client's IT workforce," said Batangovimal, a regional manager with ManageEngine. He said Gartner expects the market for IT management solutions to grow to be worth more than $1.3 trillion in the next few years.
Granted just 30 minutes to speak in the ITEXPO Solutions Theater, Batangovimal launched right into describing two projects - one large and one small - that ManageEngine recently helped resolve.
The first case study revolved around a large clinical customer. The client operates more than 1,000 clinical labs across the globe. They needed expert server management from ManageEngine.
"They weren't able to manage even 25 accounts at the same time," Batangovimal said.
The client wanted all their labs managed on one pane of glass. The rub was they wanted each lab to me managed individually. Rather than coalesce all the data from the labs into one data stream, the client wanted a specific stream for each location.
Linking up 1,000 remote servers was no small task, Batangovimal said. In this case, data was sent to the cloud before being distributed to the management console. Batangovimal said his company has established similar set-ups that incorporate on-premises storage and routing.
With remote services established in each lab, monitoring is performed in real time. Servers are refreshed automatically by the software once thresholds around 80% of capacity are reached, he said.
"We don't have to use multiple tools to make the application work," Batangovimal said. "Our agent is capable of mating your servers and pushing the data to one pane of glass."
The second case study involved a more simple issue. Their client, a vending company that specializes in airports, was receiving complaints about empty soda machines at one airport. It seems the company had outstretched its service capabilities, which left soda machines empty and resulted in complaints. Airport management was threatening to pull his client's contract, Batangovimal said.
The team at ManageEngine solved the problem by writing a script that could run on the tiny servers resident in each vending machine. With some simple coding, engineers at ManageEngine instructed the machine to issue an electronic alert whenever the contents fell below 20% full.
Since serving that initial need, ManageEngine has deployed the vending-machine software script for hundreds of other customers, Batangovimal said.
ManageEngine is owned by business software provider Zoho, based in Chennai, India. Zoho also owns Qntrl, workflow software, and Trainer Central, a training platform.
