NetApp and VMware have announced several new solutions and technology integrations designed to bring together NetApp's clustered Data ONTAP operating system with VMware's vCloud and Horizon Suites.
The integrated cloud infrastructure and mobile computing offerings will enable tighter data protection, easier deployment of infrastructure and nonstop IT operations.
The new offerings include the NetApp Storage Solution for VMware vCloud Suite, as well as the NetApp Storage Solution for VMware Horizon Suite.
The vCloud Suite solution is geared toward service providers and enterprises alike, enabling them to deliver a shared storage infrastructure within private cloud environments. The Horizon Suite offering facilitates remote/mobile workers, providing anywhere, anytime access to secure desktops, applications and data sharing.
The NetApp Storage Solution for VMware vCloud Suite offers storage infrastructure for private cloud environments by virtualizing physical storage hardware. This enables storage administrators to increase or decrease their storage resources on demand and without disrupting their business. It is built on the clustered Data ONTAP OS, offering storage efficiency and embedded data protection.
This helps reduce overall infrastructure costs while aiding with increased availability and accelerated time to market.
The NetApp Storage Solution for VMware Horizon Suite provides storage efficiency as well as data protection integration with VMware Horizon View 5.2 and VMware Horizon Workspace 1.0. This lets desktop and user data store securely and remain backed up on a virtualized infrastructure built on clustered Data ONTAP. Customers may also use the NetApp FlexClone technology through the solution, for the rapid deployment of virtual desktops as well as improved scalability and the simplified management of end-user computing environments.
