Data breaches and ransomware attacks are becoming more and more commonplace, which explains why businesses look for solutions that safeguard their digital assets (such as those we write about across MSP Today).
Platforms such as Microsoft 365, a cornerstone of productivity for countless organizations, are prime targets for cybercriminals. Recognizing this, technology companies are forging strategic partnerships to develop innovative solutions.
One recent partnership is between Commvault, a cybersecurity firm specializing in data protection and a long-term partner of Microsoft, and Microsoft, to boost data security for businesses reliant on Microsoft 365. The collaboration will integrate Microsoft 365 Backup Storage into Commvault's Cloud Backup and Recovery platform to offer customers a more efficient data protection solution.
The joint solution, Commvault Cloud with Premium Microsoft 365 Backup Storage, will be hosted on Microsoft Azure. It promises to offer businesses a single platform to manage and protect their Microsoft 365 data, including Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint.
"We are building on our 27-plus years of co-development and co-engineering with this integrated solution that helps customers achieve the highest level of cyber resilience and threat readiness, along with the ability to greatly improve recovery time to specific Microsoft 365 workloads,” said Tirthankar Chatterjee, Chief Technology Officer of Hyperscalers at Commvault. “We're excited about the advantages and efficiencies the combined solution brings to our joint customers and partners."
A key benefit of the combined solution is the ability to customize data retention policies. Customers can select specific retention periods for different types of data. This allows for more granular control over data management. Additionally, the platform offers granular recovery options, enabling businesses to restore individual items or entire systems with precision.
The integration of Microsoft 365 Backup Storage into Commvault's platform will also simplify data management by providing a unified view of backup and recovery operations. This streamlined approach is expected to reduce administrative overhead and improve overall efficiency.
And while the exact pricing details for the combined solution have not been released, Commvault and Microsoft emphasize that it will offer a competitive total cost of ownership (TCO) compared to other data protection solutions on the market.
“With this integration, Commvault has taken a major step in helping our joint customers keep their business running with fast operational recovery from cyberattacks,” said Zach Rosenfield, Partner Director of PM, Collaborative Apps and Platforms, Microsoft. “We look forward to continuing to work together with them to make customers' data more resilient,"
Cybersecurity is a top priority for businesses of all sizes, with ransomware attacks and data breaches on the rise. By combining their respective strengths, the two companies created a new industry standard for data protection and recovery. Businesses can breathe easier with greater peace of mind and resilience in the face of cyber threats.
The integrated solution is expected to be available later this quarter.
