Bitwarden's New Standalone App Makes Two-Factor Authentication Simple

Bitwarden's New Standalone App Makes Two-Factor Authentication Simple

By Greg Tavarez

Our passwords are like the gatekeepers to our digital lives, both personal and professional. But a recent Bitwarden survey says that many people reuse weak passwords across accounts, leaving themselves and their employers vulnerable.

At home, a quarter of people reuse passwords for many sites, even including personal details. This risky behavior carries over to work, where nearly half reuse passwords for work accounts, and almost 40% rely on weak ones.

This lack of strong passwords is compounded by a lack of multi-factor authentication, or MFA. Alarmingly, a third of workers don't use MFA at all, and half of those who do rely on methods easily tricked by hackers, like SMS texts.

Businesses aren't much better – two-thirds don't require MFA for everyone, and almost half see frequent login failures when it is used.

The culprit?

Employees find it inconvenient. Therefore, there is a need for user-friendly MFA solutions to tighten digital security.

Bitwarden has a mission to better equip enterprises, developers and individuals to safely store and share sensitive data. With a transparent, open-source approach to password management, secrets management and passwordless innovations, Bitwarden makes it easy for users to extend security practices to all their online experiences.

Taking that mission another step forward, the credential management provider recently launched a standalone app for two-factor authentication to protect online services and applications from unauthorized access.

Bitwarden Authenticator generates and stores time-based one-time passwords to allow all users to add a second verification layer across all accounts and devices to ensure identities are confirmed before gaining access to critical data.

Two-factor authentication is a security tool that businesses use to strengthen passwords and add an extra layer of protection for many accounts at once.

Bitwarden Authenticator is a modern solution that uses common industry standards to enable 2FA. This makes it more secure than older methods, which can be vulnerable to being tricked by hackers (phishing), stolen codes or even stolen SIM cards.

The long-story-short version of this?

Bitwarden Authenticator ensures that everyone has access to seamless MFA across all accounts and devices. Download it for free in the Apple App Store and Google Play.
