Granite EPIK Gains Security Edge Through Rapid Response Monitoring Partnership

By Greg Tavarez

Plain Old Telephone Service, or POTS, replacement technologies are important as telecommunication companies phase out their aging copper networks. POTS, which relies on analog signals transmitted over copper wires, is seen as outdated compared to digital alternatives.

These alternatives, such as VoIP, offer advantages like improved call quality, lower costs and a wider range of features such as voicemail and video conferencing. Additionally, POTS replacements are often more resilient during outages and can be restored quicker.

One such alternative is Granite Telecommunications’ EPIK solution, renowned for its innovative approach as a cost-effective advanced POTS replacement technology that has been implemented in thousands of locations throughout the U.S.

Granite is a provider of communications and technology solutions for businesses and government agencies across North America. Founded in 2002 and with a revenue of $1.85 billion, Granite offers its services to a vast network, supporting over 650,000 locations and managing 1.75 million voice and data lines.

Granite's success lies in its ability to simplify complex communication needs for businesses and government entities. The company acts as a one-stop shop for a comprehensive suite of services, including traditional voice and data solutions, mobile voice and data plans and access to UCaaS.

Its EPIK solution is a secure and reliable alternative to traditional POTS and offers a different approach to alarm communication signaling through its patented "Central Office in a Box" technology. This technology provides a resilient and highly available service that surpasses the capabilities of copper landlines.

EPIK communicates via wireline data connections and multiple 4G LTE networks and ensures constant connectivity even during outages. Leading authorities having jurisdiction, such as the New York City Fire Department and the California Office of the State Fire Marshal, have approved EPIK as a managed facilities-based voice network compliant with NFPA 72 for transmitting alarm signals.

Earlier this morning, Granite announced that the solution received a boost.

Granite entered a strategic partnership with Rapid Response Monitoring to offer “top-tier professional monitoring services for customers utilizing Granite’s patented EPIK solution for alarm signaling,” according to the announcement.

Rapid Response Monitoring is a provider of professional alarm monitoring services. In partnership with alarm dealers, integrators and installers, Rapid Response protects the lives and properties of customers across North America.

“In forging this partnership with Rapid Response Monitoring, we’re not just enhancing a product; we’re elevating the entire safety and security landscape for our customers,” said Granite President and CEO Rob Hale. “Together, we are committed to delivering a superior, life-protecting service that stands as a testament to what can be achieved when technology meets expertise.”

Partnering with Rapid Response enhances EPIK's security capabilities and provides customers with the expertise of seasoned security professionals. This includes cutting-edge, multi-redundant command centers and a dedicated customer care center staffed 24/7.

“Our alliance with Granite is a testament to our shared commitment to excellence and innovation,” said Jeffrey Atkins, President of Rapid Response Monitoring. “Together, we are setting a new industry benchmark for safety and response services."
