Nile and Palo Alto Networks Join Forces for Protection Against Advanced Cyber Threats

By Stefania Viscusi

While today's rapidly evolving digital landscape has brought significant breakthroughs in cyber defenses, the need to protect against cyber security issues is more critical than ever before. Despite best practices and new solutions, this type of crime is still on the rise - over 2,200 attacks per day according to reports and organizations must continue to safeguard their sensitive data and systems. Global spending on cybersecurity is projected to reach $26 billion by 2026, an annual growth rate of 11% since 2021.

In response to this growing need in the market, enterprise Network as a Service (NaaS) provider Nile and cybersecurity provider Palo Alto Networks have announced an integration to bring together Nile ‘s Access Service for enterprise campus (NaaS) and Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs). For customers, this means better policy management, a greater view of all traffic on their network and a better visibility required to secure operations and create a defense against cyber attacks.

“Our technical integration with Palo Alto Networks builds on our relentless mission to deliver secure connectivity - simply - through a NaaS-based model that reduces risk, while also removing many of the burdens industry has imposed on networking and security professionals," said Pankaj Patel, co-founder and CEO of Nile.

The Nile and Palo Alto Networks integration will provide:

  • Increased visibility: Palo Alto Networks NGFWs can easily detect and inspect all traffic from the Nile Access Service, improving visibility and rapid attack detection within LAN/WLAN.
  • Enhanced identity: Combining Nile's authentication approach with Palo Alto Networks NGFWs' User-ID technology enables better visibility into users and devices in the Nile Access Service, leading to informed policy enforcement decisions.
  • Centralized policy management: The integration allows for dynamic traffic segmentation policies within the Nile Access Service, simplifying policy management and preventing lateral movement of cyberattacks within LAN/WLAN.

In addition to the enterprise, protecting networks in higher education is also important today. Universities have some of the highest attacks on a weekly basis and protecting them remains critical.

Russell Kaurloto, CIO at the University of Denver commented on the benefits this new integration provides for its staff and students: "In leveraging Nile and Palo Alto Networks, we can ensure our staff and students have uninterrupted access to wired and wireless connectivity. It also gives us peace of mind knowing that the network is secure against unauthorized access and malware proliferation."
