MICROS provides applications, services and hardware for the hospitality and retail industries. Its cloud-based, mobile and on-premise solutions are used in many places around the world such as in hotels, casinos, travel operations, entertainment venues, convenience stores as well as table and quick service restaurants.

Upchurch, who previously led worldwide teams in hosting, cloud and applications services at AT&T, will be in charge of leading the company's hosting and service as a software, and management information system teams around the globe as MICRO works on expanding its hosting and SaaS offerings.

Upchurch started working with AT&T in 2006 when the telecommunications corporation acquired  business specialized software provider USInternetworking, where he held an executive position. During his time at AT&T, Upchurch was responsible for managed services, which included managed infrastructure, managed applications and cloud solutions. In addition to USInternetworking, he also worked at Interpath Communications, an application service provider that offers businesses a range of managed application services, IP-based applications and Internet consulting.

Given Upchurch's expertise in managed application services and international operations, as well as his successful track record, MICROS President and CEO Peter Altabef said in a press release that he is confident that Upchurch "will ensure MICROS' continued innovation and delivery excellence and enhance MICROS' ability to grow its hosting and SaaS business."
