Motorola Solutions Simplifying Mission Critical Communications with ASTRO 25

By Michael Guta

Law enforcement agencies, first responders and other public organizations that rely on mission-critical communications in many instances still use legacy systems that have limited capabilities compared to the technology that is available in the marketplace. The migration to these new technologies more often than not is based on budgetary constraints affecting virtually every municipality around the world. Finding a platform that ensures interoperability, high level of security and minimal complexity is difficult, but Motorola Solutions has a product that promises to deliver on all those points. The ASTRO 25 Cloud Core Managed Service allows agencies a communication platform for long-term growth and new capabilities while enabling the latest Project 25 (P25) land mobile radio (LMR) technology.

Project 25 (P25) is a standard developed in North America in cooperation with local, state and federal entities along with the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) for the design and manufacturing of interoperable digital two-way wireless communications products. The standard is now widely adopted around the world for public safety, security, public service, and commercial applications. Compliance with the standard demands minimum requirements for public safety applications.

The ASTRO 25 Cloud Core Managed Service is designed to provide all of the requirements of P 25 at an affordable price point with easy implementation and operation. The Cloud Core agreement from Motorola Solutions eliminates the need for organizations to operate their own LMR P25 Core. With this class solution, agencies don’t have to worry about maintenance, updates and interoperability issues between agencies.

ASTRO 25 Cloud Core Managed Service is offered as an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) model which provides access to shared P25 core operated and managed by Motorola Solutions delivering an operating expense model with a subscription fee that is predictable.

Agencies are able to maintain visibility using the MyView Portal to track the performance of the network with access to historical performance reports, real-time coverage predictions and more.

The operational expertise Motorola Solutions delivers is used by hundreds of public safety networks around the world with a portfolio of Managed Services, including technology access through Cloud Core, Network Operation services leveraging partnerships and alliances as well as managing large fleets of subscriber devices.

Gary Aitkenhead, vice president, Motorola Solutions Managed Services said, “Government agencies are challenged with budget restrictions and managing the complexities of a mission-critical communications network while they work to keep communities safe. The ASTRO 25 Cloud Core Managed Service allows public safety staff to focus on their day-to-day mission rather than technology management.”
