Heading to the Cloud? Take a Partner

By Rory J. Thompson

With so many companies finally making the jump to the cloud these days, it’s easy to get lost in all the fog of rhetoric and promises. That’s why it makes sense to go there with a company that’s helping lead the way.

Based in Boston, Cloud Technology Partners plans, designs and builds cloud solutions that drive innovation, agility and IT efficiency. Since entering the market in 2010, the company has worked with two dozen fortune 2000 companies including several top financial services firms and multiple global manufacturers.

In one recent engagement, the company developed the OpenStack cloud infrastructure that enabled a global electronics provider to serve 10 million end costumers, gain market share and defend against growing competition from Apple and iCloud.

“We are unique in the cloud space because we are vendor independent and cloud-exclusive,” said Christopher Smith, an analyst with Cloud Technology Partners. “Our expertise includes driving cloud strategies, building private and public clouds, developing cloud native apps and migrating applications.”

The company is also innovating some new ideas in the cloud, including its latest offering, PaaSLane, which streamlines application migration and can cut migration times by 20-25 percent.

“PaaSLane is software we developed based on the needs we were seeing in client engagements,” Smith said. “Our customers want to know how long it will take to migrate their core applications and what coding changes will be required to ensure cloud compliance.”

PaaSLane analyzes application source code in minutes, identifying cloud migration issues and estimating the level of effort required to correct them. Traditionally, cloud migration assessments are a manual process that can take months of inefficient, labor-intensive work. PaaSLane automates the process by evaluating application source code against a customizable rules engine to identify cloud compliance and compatibility issues.

Whether building a private cloud for one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers or defining the cloud transaction-processing framework for a global bank, Cloud Technology Partners has emerged as a leading cloud solutions provider for enterprise customers.

Yet even with its innovative solutions, Cloud Technology Partners is finding the same challenge that so many other companies mention -- hiring great people.

“We’re building a team with the best cloud experts in the world. Maintaining our standard can be challenging, especially in a space that continues to evolve so rapidly,” Smith said.

It would seem that all the key pieces are in place for Cloud Technology Partners to break out, something Smith is aware of.
