Analytics are applied to nearly everything these days – network and apps performance, and even unified communications where IT can monitor performance or even let managers see what their folks are doing on the phone.
Vyopta, Inc. is bringing analytics to the increasing complex world of video across the network. The company already offers analytics for process automation and business intelligence. Now with the cloud-based vAnalytics 2.0, IT pros can analyze the performance of their video installations and how this video affects the business.
vAnalytics 2.0 collects data about networked video, including quality, use, capacity, and ultimately the value of this video.
Vyopta argues that standard systems and network management tools can’t understand the specific complexities and attributes of video. In contrast, vAnalytics 2.0 collects data from the network infrastructure just like traditional management tools, but applies its analysis to video running over that infrastructure.
It specifically looks at services levels, quality of experience (QoE), and endpoint utilization.
In conjunction with this analysis, the company has vRating, “a scoring methodology that provides organizations a quick assessment of their overall video network effectiveness while highlighting key areas that warrant action,” the company explained.
vAnalytics is offered as a cloud service, and interestingly can then analyze video as a service in addition to other types of video installations.
The company’s cloud architecture is multi-tenant, so service providers can maximize its use in terms of provisioning services. The tool also helps service providers maximize the effectiveness of the video services they might happen to provide.
With vAnalytics, providers can get analysis that supports infrastructure planning.
“Two primary limitations to video management and reporting tools exist today: limited data collection, specifically, data is not collected for all devices; and unprocessed data, which results in duplication and skewed analysis,” commented Alfredo Ramirez, president and CEO at Vyopta. “With vAnalytics, we’ve capitalized on the masses of data available from the video communications infrastructure, and applied a unique data processing approach, so the outcome is comprehensive, accurate, and timely information that organizations and managed service providers can use to make evidence-based business decisions.”
Managers at a service provider view their video data through a Web browser and over secure connections. Besides performance and usage information, the provider can view bills per customer for video services.
All this data is collected by looking at gatekeepers, MCU, and installed unified communications and management tools. “Companies have and continue to make significant investments in video communications, perpetuating the need for more and more information about the performance of their investment,” noted Rick Leung, CTO at Vyopta. “vAnalytics delivers just that – operational and business intelligence that enables companies to not only, with precision, justify existing investment, but to understand how to make video work even better for their organization - to ultimately deliver improved customer service, better patient care, broader student outreach, and so much more.”
