Ooma's 2600Hz Launches New Desktop and Mobile Unified Communications Apps

By Erik Linask

In today’s era of distributed workforces, hybrid models, and the demand for instant connectivity, modern businesses require communication tools that are both powerful and seamlessly integrated.

At the same time, the communications landscape has converged around three key pillars:

  • Unified Communications as a Service – UCaaS integrates voice, video, messaging, and presence for internal collaboration;
  • Contact Center as a Service – CCaaS focuses on optimizing customer interactions across various channels; and
  • Communications Platform as a Service – CPaaS offers APIs for developers to embed custom communication features into existing applications.

The additional, related trend is a movement towards unified ecosystems, where these services work in concert, enabling businesses to communicate and collaborate effortlessly, regardless of location or device.

However, building comprehensive, feature-rich desktop and mobile applications that seamlessly integrate these services is a monumental task for most MSPs, who need to focus on acquiring and serving customers.  It demands significant upfront investment in development, continuous maintenance, and constant adaptation to evolving technologies and user expectations.

So, for MSPs, the challenge lies in delivering these advanced capabilities to their customers without incurring the costs and complexities of developing and maintaining sophisticated applications from scratch.

Ooma, through its 2600Hz brand, are addressing this challenge with the introduction of its new DesktopComm and MobileComm apps for its unified communications platform.

2600Hz offers an API-first, turnkey solution that brings together UCaaS, CCaaS, and CPaaS on a single, unified codebase.  This robust foundation, coupled with over 300 open APIs for extensive customization, is packaged as a white-label solution, allowing resellers and MSPs to offer advanced communication services under their own brands, maintaining strong brand recognition and even building their own differentiated intellectual property, all without the prohibitive core infrastructure and application development burden.

The newly launched DesktopComm and MobileComm apps directly leverage the 2600Hz platform, providing end-users with unprecedented flexibility to work from the device and location of their choice.  The intuitive applications deliver a comprehensive suite of features essential for modern business communications, including:

  • Voice Calling:  Make, receive, transfer, and park calls, with integrated call recording;
  • Contact Management:  Access company contacts for streamlined communication;
  • Team Collaboration:  Participate in real-time team chats;
  • Messaging:  Listen to voicemails and send/receive electronic faxes;
  • Call History:  View comprehensive call logs;
  • Video Conferencing:  Start or join video meetings directly from the desktop app or via a web browser.

DesktopComm is immediately available for Windows and Mac, while MobileComm supports iOS and Android devices, ensuring broad accessibility for diverse work environments.

"Ooma acquired 2600Hz two years ago because we saw the huge potential in expanding the platform’s capabilities – both for our own Ooma Office business phone system, which is built on 2600Hz, and for service providers looking to control their destiny when offering UCaaS," said Chris Burgy, senior vice president of corporate development at Ooma.

For MSPs, these new applications translate into a competitive edge.  Instead of allocating vast resources to app development and maintenance, they can immediately deliver a market-ready, feature-rich, and branded UC solution.  This not only accelerates time to market, but also allows MSPs to focus their energy and investments on fostering customer relationships and developing unique services that truly differentiate them in a crowded marketplace.
