MSP Expo 2025 Diamond Sponsor Kaseya's Voccola Discusses Move Away from CEO Position During Fireside Chat

By Greg Tavarez

At the #TECHSUPERSHOW, which includes the likes of ITEXPO 2025 and MSP Expo 2025, among others, Rich Tehrani, CEO of TMC, sat down with Fred Voccola, Kaseya's vice chairman, for an engaging fireside chat. Voccola, who recently transitioned from his role as CEO, shared insights into his decision and the evolving MSP market.

Voccola's move to vice chairman comes on the heels of the MSP Expo 2025 Diamond Sponsor's launch of Kaseya 365, an IT management solution designed to streamline operations for MSPs. Before making the decision, Voccola wanted to be sure if Kaseya 365 would be a success.

Well, he reflects on Kaseya 365’s success and remarked that it became “the right time for me to step up into another role, such as role of vice chairman. We are in the process of finding a CEO.”

Tehrani then asked Voccola speak on the challenges MSPs face. Voccola first noted that the average MSP serving SMBs operates on a slim 10% profit margin. He attributed this to the reliance on multiple enterprise-grade products that are often costly and complex. Kaseya 365 aims to change this narrative by providing automation tools that can handle half of an MSP's tasks. This will allow them to reduce spending on hardware and software by a third, which adds a 25% pure profit boost.

Highlighting MSP’s importance to the market, Voccola stated, "SMBs make up 77% of US economic growth in the private sector." This is important because, as he points out, as technology becomes integral to businesses like local architecture firms, the need for MSPs to ensure tech availability and security is greater.

This is when Tehrani asked for advice for MSPs in 2025.

Voccola advised MSPs to focus on articulating their value to customers and to avoid getting entangled in the "product race." He suggested, "Find out which products are the most integrated and which cost the least. I bet many of you are overspending."

The fireside chat then took a turn to discuss two big topics: cybersecurity and AI.

On the topic of cybersecurity, Voccola observed that large-scale rollups often face challenges, particularly with client retention after multiple acquisitions. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relationships, regardless of a company's size, stating, "Whether you have 5 or 5,000 employees, you only need to be competent."

When discussing AI, Voccola likened it to broad terms like "financial services" or "technology," encompassing a wide range of applications. He encouraged MSPs to explore offering AI awareness training and consultancy services as avenues for expansion. He also noted practical uses of AI, such as generating marketing copy, and highlighted various ways to monetize AI in the MSP space.

Voccola's insights provided a roadmap for MSPs that want to thrive in a competitive market. His insights underscore the importance of adaptability, value articulation and strategic investment in integrated solutions.
