Sailing Towards Secure Horizons: A Peek at the Alliance between SailPoint and Imprivata

By Alex Passett

Happy New Year’s Eve, y’all.

Ahead of whatever activities our readers may partake in this evening, our team wishes everyone a lovely, warm and safe end to 2024 as we embark upon new endeavors in 2025.

But before any year-end festivities commence, we’ve got some quick news to cover.

First, enter SailPoint and Imprivata.

SailPoint’s identity security platform is purpose-built for today’s modern enterprise demands; it delivers what the company describes as “an intelligent, fully autonomous identity foundation that securely fuels your business.” With deep expertise in unified identity security solutions, SailPoint enables teams to manage and secure real-time access to critical applications so users can navigate their identity security journeys with data-driven confidence. (More info here.)

Imprivata is in a similar boat. “When every second counts,” per the company, “simple and secure access to all apps and information across every workflow, for every user, and from every device is a must.” Zeroing in on mission-critical (and what it describes as “life-critical”) industries, Imprivata a.) knows that identity is the catalyst to maximizing user efficiency and security, and b.) embeds authentication directly into workflows for seamless, consistent user interactions.

So, here’s the news:

Sailpoint officially announced its strategic partnership with Imprivata, and their combined goal is clear: Create a best-of-breed identity security and access management alliance that benefits healthcare organizations worldwide.

More specifically, SailPoint has acquired Imprivata’s Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) business as it entered this go-to-market partnership. Going forward, SailPoint and Imprivata will promote each other as exclusive identity security and access management partners in healthcare, as they’ll both be developing “high-fidelity technical integrations between Imprivata Enterprise Access Management (EAM) and SailPoint Identity Security Cloud.” SailPoint will reportedly work closely with acquired Imprivata’s IGA customers; those that wish to remain on Imprivata’s platform (i.e. SailPoint will provide limited support through December 12, 2027), and those interested in working with SailPoint on customer-specific migration plans.

Mat Mills, President of SailPoint Technologies, Inc., described it best:

“Imprivata is a recognized leader in enterprise access management for healthcare today. They are trusted by healthcare organizations around the world to grant fast, secure access to the important systems care providers need to complete their mission-critical jobs,” he stated. “This partnership is a pivotal shift in the healthcare identity security industry. By partnering, we’ll unite our identity security solution with Imprivata Enterprise Access Management seamlessly, giving our joint healthcare customers a powerful, unified, and comprehensive approach to managing and securing their digital identities.”

Mills continued, “We are eager to welcome Imprivata IGA customers to SailPoint. Our goal is not only to support them near-term during this transition, but to long-term guide them towards a modernized approach with SailPoint Identity Security Cloud. We have helped hundreds of our own customers with their modernization efforts from on-prem to cloud and have a playbook in place that helps ensure a smooth and successful transition. Imprivata IGA customers will soon have access to next-gen identity security that thousands of large, complex organizations trust to secure their business today.”

“We are excited to partner with SailPoint to combine our industry-leading identity security solutions to help healthcare organizations address their end-to-end security, compliance, and workflow challenges,” added Fran Rosch, CEO of Imprivata. “Transitioning the Imprivata IGA business to SailPoint allows Imprivata to continue to focus on delivering access management, mobile, and privileged access security solutions that deliver the most value possible to our customers.”

To learn more about such business partnerships and the benefits therein, don’t miss MSP Expo 2025.
