Microsoft Security Gets Stronger with 1Password

By Greg Tavarez

It’s a hassle trying to remember countless passwords; we all know it. Each website, app and service demands a unique and secure password, often with requirements like a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters. This can create a mental burden and lead to both frustration and wasted time.

The constant pressure to create strong, unique passwords can also lead to compromises in security. People may resort to weaker, easier-to-remember passwords, which only increases their vulnerability to cyberattacks.

This constant juggling act between security and convenience raises the alarm for better password management solutions.

Luckily, 1Password securely stores all your passwords, credit card information and sensitive documents in one encrypted vault. 1Password’s password generator creates strong, unique passwords for every account, while their autofill feature saves time and effort.

And in the business realm, where it’s a must for security teams to make sure every identity, device and application is secure, 1Password offers 1Password Extended Access Management.

1Password Extended Access Management secures all applications, including unmanaged and legacy apps, from all devices, both corporate and personal. This is achieved through key features that include Device Trust, which verifies the health and security of devices accessing sensitive data; Application Visibility, which identifies and assesses the risk of shadow IT applications; and Contextual Access Management, which enforces granular access controls based on user roles, device health and other factors.

1Password Extended Access Management is there to help organizations protect their sensitive data and maintain compliance with industry standards. Now, 1Password Extended Access Management is available to Microsoft customers as 1Password joined the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association, or MISA.

MISA, founded in 2018, unites Microsoft leaders, software vendors and managed security service providers to fight cyber threats. By working together, they aim to develop smart, top-tier security solutions that keep up with the rapid pace of AI and protect organizations from the growing number of security risks.

“The Microsoft Intelligent Security Association has grown into a vibrant ecosystem comprised of the most reliable and trusted security software vendors across the globe,” said Maria Thomson, Director, Microsoft Intelligent Security Association. “Our members, like 1Password, share Microsoft’s commitment to collaboration within the cybersecurity community to improve our customers’ ability to predict, detect and respond to security threats faster.”

1Password's Extended Access Management platform offers Microsoft users real-time threat visibility, device health enforcement and access management through its integrations with Microsoft Sentinel and Microsoft Entra ID.

Basically, the integration ensures that only known, healthy and compliant devices — whether corporate-owned or personal — can access sensitive data. This helps organizations confidently enforce Zero Trust security policies to protect critical information from compromised or non-compliant devices and enhance overall data security.

With 1Password Extended Access Management integrated with Microsoft Entra, businesses also protect not only managed applications and devices but also unmanaged ones, such as shadow IT, contractor and personal devices, which are increasingly used in today’s hybrid work environments.

“With today’s distributed workforce, employees want the flexibility to work from anywhere while using the device or application of their choice, which poses unique security challenges,” said Jeff Shiner, CEO of 1Password. “The integrations of 1Password Extended Access Management with Microsoft Sentinel and Entra ID provide Microsoft customers with a comprehensive solution that can address these challenges by protecting both managed and unmanaged devices and applications."
