Votiro and Zscaler Shield Businesses from File-Based Threats

By Greg Tavarez

Smooth operations for modern businesses hinge on the easy exchange of information between employees, partners, customers and suppliers. This necessitates the frequent transfer of files and content across various platforms. However, this reliance on digital communication has introduced new vulnerabilities.

Malicious actors employ sophisticated techniques to infiltrate systems and steal sensitive data. One such method is steganography, where harmful code or confidential information is concealed within seemingly innocuous files, such as images. These hidden threats can easily bypass traditional security measures.

To counter these risks, many organizations have implemented restrictive security policies that limit employees' access to certain file types, websites and applications. While intended to protect sensitive data, these measures often hinder productivity and impede collaboration. Employees may find themselves unable to open essential documents or access necessary tools to complete their tasks efficiently. This can lead to frustration, delays and a decline in overall business performance.

So to avoid those issues employees face, Votiro and Zscaler teamed up to create a solution safeguarding file downloads across various digital platforms.

Votiro's Zero Trust Data Detection and Response platform allows data to flow freely and safely. Their unified data security solution provides organizations with real-time privacy masking, data compliance, proactive file-borne threat prevention and actionable data insights.

Zscaler provides secure access to internet applications, data and services. It operates on a zero-trust architecture, meaning it doesn't inherently trust any user, device or application. Zscaler protects businesses from cyber threats, data loss and compliance risks, while enabling secure access to applications and data from anywhere in the world.

By combining Votiro's advanced threat detection technology with Zscaler, organizations effectively shield themselves from malware and data breaches. Votiro's platform meticulously examines files for hidden threats, including those concealed within images, and neutralizes them without altering the original file format. This is to make sure files remain usable while eliminating risks.

This combination streamlines IT operations by reducing the time spent managing quarantined or blocked files. Employees access necessary content without delay, which boosts productivity.

“By joining forces with Zscaler, we are providing an advanced security solution that aligns with how modern business is being conducted,” said Ravi Srinivasan, CEO at Votiro. “Boosting productivity, resiliency and security are the backbone of this partnership, and we look forward to working together to help more organizations bolster their cybersecurity defenses.”

The integrated solution also identifies and blocks malicious files disguised with misleading file extensions, detects and removes harmful code embedded within documents or images and neutralizes dangerous content like VBA macros. This safeguards sensitive data while maintaining a seamless user experience.

“File-borne threats hide as malicious code or macros with standard files that users download from the internet every day,” said Amit Raikar, Vice President of Technology Alliances and Business Development at Zscaler. “Our holistic approach to cyber threat protection and data protection complements nicely with Votiro’s Data Detection and Response platform.”

Seeing the announcement about these two companies joining forces immediately made me think about how formidable a force they will be when it comes cybersecurity. As the threat landscape grows, which it will, I wouldn’t put it past it that this partnership is likely to expand its focus on emerging threats like ransomware, supply chain attacks and AI-driven threats.

This collaboration has the potential to redefine the security posture of businesses across industries.
