SonicWall's CSE is a Much-Needed, Cloud-Delivered Solution for MSPs

SonicWall's CSE is a Much-Needed, Cloud-Delivered Solution for MSPs

By Alex Passett

Earlier this year, Stefania Viscusi – a fellow MSP Today writer – assembled a long-story-short rundown of a report from SonicWall, a provider of cybersecurity-centric support for teams in need.

As we know, SonicWall’s products range from next-gen firewalls (NGFW) and network and endpoint security services, to Secure Service Edge (SSE), Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), Managed XDR and plenty of other avenues for advanced threat protection. Expertise in these areas position SonicWall well to release reports like the aforementioned; the 2024 SonicWall Cyber Threat Report put a spotlight on increasingly tumultuous pressure being placed on IT departments as businesses vie for more-than-adequate ways to tackle rises in everything from alert fatigue to malware, ransomware and cryptojacking. (Read Viscusi’s full SonicWall article here.)

Additionally, a quote that stood out to me from SonicWall came from Michael Crean, its Executive Vice President of Managed Security Services.

“When it comes to protecting your most valuable assets, organizations must remain vigilant. They need to deploy proactive cybersecurity measures and focus on the threats that actually matter,” Crean explained. “Today's organizations demand an integrated approach for end-to-end managed threat protection, enabling MSPs to help customers confidently navigate the cybersecurity landscape with resilience – giving them a distinct competitive edge.”

And that’s where we segue to implementations of zero trust architecture (i.e. Zero Trust Network Access, or ZTNA).

“We are redefining SSE and ZTNA for the SME market by combining robustness and security, empowering organizations to embrace zero trust principles with ease,” stated Robert VanKirk, SonicWall President and CEO. “Our goal is to provide our partners and their customers with confidence that their data remains protected, regardless of where their workforce operates."

This is why SonicWall announced a new launch: Cloud Secure Edge (CSE).

Here’s a great excerpt from the official announcement:

Born from years of delivering innovative SSE solutions for mid-enterprise customers, CSE is a unified, cloud-delivered, multi-tenant platform for MSPs of all sizes. Customers will be able to choose from a range of Secure Internet Access (SIA) and Secure Private Access (SPA) solutions that replace legacy VPNs with cloud-native solutions that deliver network security at all price points. CSE enables organizations to securely connect employees and third-party users to resources from any device and location.

By the look of it, CSE a.) recognizes the hoops SMEs jump through by providing a straightforward, scalable ZTNA  solution, and b.) adds yet another tool to the toolbelt, so to speak, for businesses looking to confidently transition to the cloud. (A topic which we also cover often over on Cloud Computing.)
