Devolutions Assists SMBs with Free Shared Account and Password Management

By Greg Tavarez

Large enterprises and SMBs face fundamentally different challenges when it comes to managing shared accounts and passwords.

Large organizations often have thousands of employees spread across multiple locations and departments. This necessitates robust IT infrastructure with granular access controls. They juggle a vast network of applications and accounts, requiring sophisticated password management solutions with features like single sign-on and MFA.

SMBs typically have fewer employees, a simpler organizational structure and use a smaller number of applications. While security is still crucial, the need for highly granular access controls is less pressing.

Large companies often have dedicated IT departments with cybersecurity specialists. They can afford to invest in expensive, feature-rich password management solutions with extensive support options.

Many SMBs lack dedicated IT staff. They rely on in-house IT generalists or outsource IT management entirely. This budget constraint necessitates user-friendly, cost-effective solutions with minimal IT overhead. And the financial impact on SMBs can be devastating if they are hit with a cyberattack. SMBs need solutions that are easy to learn and implement with minimal training. User adoption is key to ensuring the effectiveness of the password management strategy.

To assist growing organizations with their shared accounts and password management needs at a cost that won’t break the bank, Devolutions, a developer of secure remote access solutions, announced an update to the free edition of its Devolutions Server software.

Devolutions offers a tiered licensing structure for Devolutions Server, including paid Team, Enterprise and Platinum editions alongside the free option. This update caters specifically to SMBs by increasing the free user limit from three to 10 to make certain they benefit from credential management without exceeding their budgetary constraints.

Version 2024.1 of Devolutions Server also introduces several additional enhancements. These include a revamped interface improves user experience and ease of use, improved notifications and integration with the new Devolutions Send service streamline communication and high availability support for the scheduler service ensures greater uptime. Other enhancements include a built-in web active directory dashboard that simplifies management.

These features complement Devolutions Server's existing functionalities, including self-hosted shared password vault, secure credential injection and connection launching. Active Directory and Office 365 integration, granular role-based access controls and detailed access and audit reports for compliance

Devolutions Server also integrates with other Devolutions products, including Remote Desktop Manager, Devolutions Gateway and the Devolutions PAM Module, furthering efficiency for all users.

“This strategic expansion of our free product suite, which already includes Remote Desktop Manager Free and Hub Personal, underscores our dedication to providing comprehensive, secure and accessible solutions to organizations of all sizes,” said David Hervieux, CEO of Devolutions. “By increasing the availability of our server solution, we aim to bridge the gap in the market for high-quality, affordable IT solutions. This enhancement not only complements our existing product lineup but also reinforces our mission to empower businesses with the tools they need to manage their IT infrastructure securely and efficiently.”
