MSP Expo Sponsor Sangoma Acts as Catalyst for UK's PSTN Shift

By Greg Tavarez

The UK’s PSTN is being retired and replaced with digital technology using an internet connection, such as VoIP, digital voice, or all-IP telephony. The telecoms industry has announced its intention to retire analogue telephone networks such as the PSTN by the end of 2025.

As a result, many U.K. businesses find themselves fighting with the imminent termination of traditional analogue telephony. This shift is driven by advancements in technology, and the businesses are being forced to invest in new equipment, upgrade existing systems and implement communication strategies to navigate the regulatory changes driving the shift away from traditional analogue telephony.

Because of the shift, many of these businesses encompass potential disruptions in communication systems, the necessity for infrastructure upgrades and possible financial implications.

U.K. businesses, worry not. A major boost is set to accelerate the transition to a digital-first future.

MSP Expo sponsor Sangoma Technologies, a global provider of business IT and communication solutions, recently partnered with U.K.-based Sol Distribution in a move that will give businesses easy and cost-effective access to hardware and software products capable of helping them modernize.

Sangoma provides value-based UC business phone systems, both on-premise and cloud-based. They specialize in UC, video, chat, contact center, MSP services, security and more, and is a growing, profitable company with an installed base of over 2.5 million UC seats.

Sol Distribution excels in networking and security solutions for resellers across the U.K. and Europe. Renowned for top-notch customer service, it partners with brands such as ADVA Optical Networking, Alcatel Lucent Enterprise, ASUS and others.

Sol Distribution also offers third-party-compatible transceivers and cables, providing a comprehensive solution set. The company believes in the excellence of each vendor partner in their respective domains.

The partnership leverages the fusion of Sangoma’s global reputation in unified business communication innovation with Sol Distribution’s thriving network of expert reseller and system integrators upon which vast numbers of small- and medium-sized companies depend for business-critical IT support.

“The U.K. switch-off of the Public Service Telephone Network (PSTN) scheduled for 2025 means many businesses will look to technology providers to help them digitize,” said Simon Horton, Vice President of Sales, Europe, Sangoma. “As a result of this partnership, those providers will now be able to engage with Sol Distribution and benefit from the smart functionality, reliability and value for money that are the characteristics of the strong Sangoma suite of products.

Graeme Sutton, Managing Director, Sol Distribution, agrees with Horton.

“Together, we can provide resellers and system integrators with not only business communication solutions capable of positively transforming the way their customers work, but also the ability to gain a competitive edge, open up more revenue streams, and benefit from highly attractive margins,” said Sutton.

Sangoma is a Platinum sponsor of MSP Expo, taking place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, February 13-15, 2024. Part of the #TECHSUPERSHOW, MSP Expo is the premier event for MSPs, offering a three-day experience combining conference education, networking opportunities, an exhibit hall full of the latest technologies and solutions to help MSPs build their business, and more. Sangoma will be in booth #621 in the exhibit hall.
