CoreSite Cloud Data Centers Now Boast 100% Renewable Energy

By Luke Bellos

Cloud storage is becoming a highly valuable asset for businesses across the globe, especially to manage remote workforces, communications systems, and sophisticated digital integrations. However, cloud storage requires a significant amount of energy to maintain proper functionality, which is causing concerns for companies focused on cutting down on carbon emissions.

CoreSite Realty Corporation, a leading provider of cloud-based storage facilities across the US, recently announced its Virginia-based Reston Data Center Campus now utilizes 100% renewable energy. This feat was accomplished thanks to Dominion Energy’s 100% Renewable Energy Program, a recently established initiative allowing companies to voluntarily draw energy from solar, hydropower, and biomass sources.

“CoreSite is committed to seeking out the least carbon-intensive energy sources wherever feasible, which in turn supports its customers’ economic goals,” said Paul Szurek, CoreSite’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “ We are excited to support the development of local renewable energy sources in the Northern Virginia market and to take this additional step in CoreSite’s sustainability journey by achieving 100% renewable power at our VA3 data center.”

The CoreSite data campus currently consists of three operating data centers,V1,V2,and V3, which provide low latency network access for managed service providers to build scalable cloud solutions for customers. Now running with an environmentally friendly energy supply, CoreSite’s data campus will likely become an attractive destination for cloud customers prioritizing green initiatives for business operations.
