Vizient Delivers Customized MSP Services to Healthcare Industry

By Frank Griffin

One of the industry's hit by labor shortage is healthcare. Whether it is nurses, family doctors or specialized physicians, there is more need as the population increases. According to a report carried out by First Consulting Group and commissioned by several organizations, including The American Hospital Association and The Association of American Medical Colleges, there are shortages in the double digit rates in some fields. For nursing assistants, LPNs, pharmacists, imaging technicians and registered nurses, it is upwards of 12 percent. Vizient’s Workforce Optimization Contract Labor Management Service is addressing the labor shortages of healthcare providers for their clinical and non-clinical temporary staffing needs.

Vizient is a member healthcare performance improvement company that provides data-driven solutions with the expertise and collaborative approach for delivering better patient outcomes while lowering costs. With close to $100 billion in annual purchasing volume, the members and customer base of the company are made up of academic medical centers, pediatric facilities, community hospitals, integrated health delivery networks and non-acute health care providers.

The Vizient platform was responsible for staffing more than 750,000 shifts and manage over 12 million agency hours annually driving in excess of $250 million in contract labor savings for 700 hospitals and 100 diverse markets across the country in 2016. Contract Labor Management is the largest Vendor-neutral Management Service (VMS) with a customized Managed Service Provider (MSP) services for its members.

By providing clinical and non-clinical temporary staffing needs with a dedicated contract management, along with comprehensive MSP services, Vizient is able to support services for optimal patient care and drive bottom line savings with its next-generation procurement technology called Contract Labor Optimizer.

“Our Optimizer technology uses advanced reporting capabilities to benchmark performance, improve oversight and recognize improvement opportunities while offering members the insight of a trusted adviser and the direction of a strategic partner to drive costs down and quality up," said Jack Datz, managing principal, workforce optimization for Vizient.

The technology developed by Vizient for the Optimizer fills the requirements of its members with their exact staffing need of temporary labor using a web-based platform that simplifies the process and shortening the time to identify qualified professionals. When there is a fluctuation in needs, it improves productivity and reduces liability risks with the eventual goal of improving care models. This makes everyone across the value chain, including MSP services more efficient in delivering better outcomes for their clients.
