EarthLink Tackles Corporate Network Security with New Managed Security Monitoring Service

By Laura Stotler

A slew of security breaches and fraud involving big name companies over the past few years has caused a change in the way enterprises are handling security and monitoring. IT leaders are under the gun to institute better security plans that detect threats and head them off before they can cause serious and expensive damage.

EarthLink has been working to build out its cloud and managed services portfolio and is addressing these issues with the addition of a new Managed Security Monitoring Service. The solution monitors networks, servers, routers, POS devices and endpoints like laptops and desktops for customers. It’s designed to detect security issues before they become disruptive and lead to serious data breaches.

The new offering, like all of the company’s managed solutions, is geared toward multi-location businesses seeking managed and hosted cloud solutions. The solution helps customers meet their basic compliance requirements while also providing tighter security to help clients protect their own business data as well as their customers’ valuable information. It takes advantage of analytics technologies as well to detect threats on both IT and network infrastructure.

This works via EarthLink’s Security Operations Center, which collects and analyzes all the log data from the devices being monitored to identify suspicious activity. The solution also includes proactive vulnerability management as well as identification and remediation services to provide threat reduction and add valuable layers of protection for sensitive applications and data.

"With all eyes on IT leaders to deploy the right solution, EarthLink offers one of the most comprehensive managed security monitoring services on the market today, designed to detect threats across the entire IT ecosystem," said Peter Chronis, chief security officer at EarthLink.

Features of EarthLink’s Managed Security Monitoring service include an experienced staff specializing in incident response, security event detection and threat containment, as well as the ability to detect malicious activity across the entire network ecosystem. Additionally, the solution monitors processes and procedures to help clients meet their HIPAA, PCI, SOX and GLBA mandate requirements. It also provides web-based reporting through the myLink customer portal, which offers trouble ticket and security event tracking as well as details on remediation.
