Canada's Above Security Acquires Seccuris to Create Pure-Play Global MSSP

By Laura Stotler

A major deal has been struck on the managed security services front, with Canadian company Above Security acquiring Seccuris. The company, which has offices in both Canada and the U.S., is a MSSP as well as an information assurance integrator that will enable Above Security to expand and enhance its offerings.

The two companies have joined forces to create a pure-play MSSP offering two Security Operations Centers in Canada serving more than 45 countries. The acquisition comes at an opportune time, with the global MSSP market expected to bring in more than $15 billion this year by some estimates. Seccuris specializes in enterprise security architecture and assurance integration, and also offers services like IT risk management, incident response and threat and vulnerability managed services.

"This acquisition perfectly achieves our goal of complementing our strong international presence with domestic growth, but above all our two companies share similar cultures and values, which makes this move feel very natural," said Ray Georges Chehata, president and CEO of Above Security. "This acquisition comes as part of our global strategic growth plan to build a premier global Managed Security Service Provider through organic growth and additional acquisitions."

Michael Legary, founder and chairman of Seccuris, will join the Above Security board of directors as part of the deal while Seccuris CEO Geoff Besko will join the executive team at Above Security. Last month, Seccuris moved its Dallas headquarters to a larger office, creating a stronger U.S. presence for the combined companies. The new space enables the company to grow its cyber security and sales personnel.

"The synergies with the Above Security team were evident right from the start,” said Legary. “Seccuris and Above Security coming together will allow us to create a unique provider of information security services. There is a clear trend of consolidation in the IT security industry, and by joining the Above Security team we will be greatly positioned to accelerate our growth and continue to strengthen our position as a truly global assurance integrator."
