independenceIT President Talks DaaS, Growth Plan

By Doug Barney

IndependenceIT (iIT) is no doubt on a roll. MSP Today has covered it partnerships, channel plans, new versions, recent funding, and freshly revamped executive roster. The former CFO of Terramark Jose Segrera. In addition to Segrera, the company is now welcoming former Terramark and SoftLayer chief marketing officer Simon West as an advisor.

To make sense of it all, we reached out to company president Seth Bostock and peppered him with 7 questions.

MSP Today: What does this beefing of your team mean, what is the strategy?

Bostock: Our strategy as we grow is to bring in business leaders that can assist and guide us with our growth. Both Jose and Simon are best of breed and have impressive track records. We are very excited to have them as part of the team.

MSP Today: Is the new financing the first round or were there previous rounds?

Bostock:  Yes, and it was a $2.5 million funding deal.

MSP Today: Why should MSPs look at DaaS?

Bostock: Many SMB's have dispersed work forces and mobile users. These users need to have access to all of their applications and data on all of their devices. DaaS completes the promise for SMB's and allows for greater scalability and flexibility for an SMB organizations.

MSP Today: What does Amazon's entry mean, does it give the DaaS space more credibility?

Bostock: There are very few players in the DaaS space that own their technology, Desktone was one of those players and iIT is another. With Desktone's recent acquisition by VMware, Amazon's entry into the space and Microsoft's announcement of their version of DaaS (Mohoro), it is our opinion that the space has been validated and will see explosive growth.

MSP Today: How is your DaaS different?

Bostock: Cloud Workspace is a DaaS enablement platform. The iIT Cloud Workspace platform is hypervisor agnostic, so we can deploy on top all major hypervisor platforms: Oracle, Vmware, Hyper V, Xen server or Openstack as well as the heavy hitting IaaS providers such as AWS and Azure. This is a huge point of difference for iIT and makes our Cloud Workspace Suite an extremely versatile software platform. We have simplified complexities associated with deployment and management DaaS.

MSP Today: How is your approach to channel different?
Bostock: iIT also has multiple go to market options with such a flexible platform:

*             Turnkey, private labeled as a service option for MSPs, VARs and Telcos who want their own cloud solution, but don't want to make the massive investments upfront
*             Managed software platform, for those who have their own infrastructure, but don't have the expertise to manage the application layer
*             Software licensing option for enterprises and larger providers who have the infrastructure, the expertise but want ability to easily manage their own DaaS solution without the headaches of dealing with other offerings.
Further, we put all of our Partners through iIT University and work with the to learn and understand how to be successful in this space.

MSP Today: Why is BYOD driving DaaS?

Bostock: Mobility and many end users devices that need to connect to all of a business's applications and data.
