Arbor Networks to Supply Norway's Broadnet with DDoS Solutions

By Frank Griffin

There is one theme of great concern running in virtually every organization in today's business environment, and it is security. The threat of an attack can come from anywhere and at any time, paralyzing the organization for undetermined amount of time if the right disaster recovery solution is not in place. With so many types of attacks, organizations must implement the best available security platform and recovery system. Norway's Broadnet, provider of fiber-based communications to companies and operators with 14.9 thousand miles of fiber, has chosen to use Peakflow SP Platform from Arbor Netowrks to provide Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) managed services to its enterprise customers.

Arbor Networks, Inc. is a globally recognized provider of DDoS and advanced threat protection solutions for enterprise and service provider networks with multiple solutions. The managed security services powered by Arbor provide a unique approach to service providers with proven technology by a global customer base. Composed of two main components, Peakflow SP and Peakflow Threat Management System combine to detect, divert, clean, and remove any anomaly throughout the network without interrupting services to the organization being attacked.

The PeakFlow SP provides:

  • Comprehensive DDoS detection and analysis
  • Flexible licensing and virtual deployments
  • Profitable and cut managed service offerings
  • Intelligent traffic engineering
  • Application-layer intelligence and protection
  • Mobile network protection

"By offering a cloud-based DDoS managed security service, Broadnet is responding to customer demand for DDoS protection. Attacks have become very targeted and increasingly complex. They have become a top of mind concern for enterprise IT and security teams," said Arbor Networks President Colin Doherty.

Arbor uses its ATLAS Intelligence Feed by monitoring 43Tbps of peak Internet traffic. This allows it to deliver intelligence about DDoS, malware, exploits, phishing and botnets that threaten Internet infrastructure and services. Customers are able to gain a micro and macro view allowing them to see potential threats and take appropriate action. ATLAS provides a global threat map with real-time visibility into globally propagating threats; threat breifs that summarize the most significant security events that have taken place over the past 24 hours; top threat sources with multidimensional visualization of originating attack activity and more.

"DDoS emerged as a significant threat to Norwegian enterprises in 2013. Banking, online retail, and any organization that has a need for high availability Internet properties, applications and services are likely targets. The motivations can range from financial to political. The key question for enterprises is, have I been proactive in my defense, or will I be reactionary and risk downtime and all the associated costs, from lost revenue to a damaged brand," said Tore Røraas, vice president of product development, Broadnet.
