SolarWinds' SAM to Help IT Personnel Resolve Server, Application Issues Directly from Web Console

By Frank Griffin

SolarWinds focuses on IT pros to give them IT management software designed to help them simplify the process of finding, buying, using and maintaining said software, without the traditional complexities associated with enterprise-class software vendors.

Although the process has been simplified, the software is robust enough to meet any IT management challenge on any scale, and present workable solutions. The company announced the upcoming release of SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor (SAM), the organization’s foundation suite of management products.

The new version of SolarWinds SAM is designed to give IT specialists more control of their environment. This version will give users the ability to resolve server and applications issues directly from the Web console. Some of the direct action the IT professional can execute includes killing rogue processes, rebooting services and starting and stopping services.

It supports 150 applications and server types by delivering agentless performance and availability monitoring, alerting and reporting.

The complete system and application management is in a portfolio made up of nine key products, which together give IT personnel in organizations of all sizes the tools to troubleshoot, address patch management and perform a number of monitoring tasks.

Updates in the new SAM include:

  • New server hardware health monitoring support for Dell M 1000e, HP C3000 and HP C7000 – and other popular blade chassis
  • Monitoring for bandwidth errors and usage for Windows Server network performance
  • Support for new remote pollers to increase the flexibility of deployments for supporting distributed environments and MSP-style architectures
  • New metrics to find out issue with the servers caused by latency, queue disk I/O and IOPS

"As new IT challenges, budget and staffing limitations place an increasingly high demand on IT professionals to meet business objectives while doing more with less, we will continue to be an advocate for those professionals by paying close attention to their evolving needs. We've enhanced our powerful yet easy-to-use systems and applications solutions, offering an affordable alternative to costly competitors or as a complementary solution for existing structures. From the SMB to the large enterprise, SolarWinds will remain a leader in delivering software that solves real-world problems for everyone," said Denny LeCompte, SVP of product strategy, SolarWinds.

SolarWinds is making SAM available as downloadable for a free 30-day evaluation trial, and purchase prices start at $2,995 with a year of maintenance.
