Cleversafe, Inc. and Avere Systems have teamed up to simplify and enhance cloud storage environments. The companies have partnered on a joint solution that will accelerate access to data and applications in cloud environments while offering massive scalability and efficiencies.
The companies are integrating Cleversafe’s object-based storage solution with Avere Cloud NAS technology. The combined offering includes the Avere FlashCloud on FXT Series Edge Filers and Dispersed Storage Network (dsNet) technology from Cleversafe and is geared toward helping customers handle accelerated NAS operations performance while scaling efficiently to handle data fluctuations in private cloud environments.
Big data is causing the cloud storage market to explode, and MarketsandMarkets predicts the combined public and private market will hit $46.8 billion by 2018. Inherent in that growth is a need for enterprises to handle massive amounts of data efficiently and cost effectively and without investing too much money on infrastructure. Cloud storage neatly fulfills that need and offers the scalability and price point businesses are looking for, making it an increasingly popular option for data storage environments.
"With our joint solution, customers making the move to the private cloud now have a familiar NAS interface that requires no changes to their existing applications, as well as an architecture that will scale in both performance and capacity," said Ron Bianchini, president and CEO of Avere Systems.
"We are dedicated to helping our customers build a storage infrastructure that works across all of their storage needs," added John Morris, CEO of Cleversafe. "The combined Cleversafe and Avere Systems solution allows us to provide our customers with a cost effective and highly reliable, scalable enterprise storage system for Web-scale data demands with greater performance and faster access to their data and applications."
The new offering uses Cleversafe’s patented, geographically dispersed erasure coding so that data replication is not needed. This can reduce costs by up to 65 percent compared to traditional storage, while improving security since data is virtualized and stored as encrypted slices that are dispersed across devices and storage nodes.
The companies have achieved the SPECsfs2008 NAS benchmark for their joint offering as well, demonstrating superior scalability with minimal latency. Avere’s technology, deployed on a Cleversafe system, achieved more than five nines of availability with deployment across three geographically dispersed locations.
