Mailbox App Rocks iOS World By Adding Support for Yahoo and iCloud

By Laura Stotler

In a move that has shaken up the Mac iOS world and will potentially add millions of users to their growing base, the Mailbox app has broadened its support beyond Gmail. The company announced that due to extreme demand for Yahoo and iCloud support, they have decided to broaden their reach for iPhone and iPad users.

In a blog post on their website, Mailbox announced support this week for Yahoo, iCloud, me.com and mac.com email accounts. The free app, which is already popular among Gmail enthusiasts, enables users to add as many as 10 accounts to their Mailbox, creating a simplified and unified email inbox.

Mailbox professes they will add support for additional devices and clients as the company grows. The company has had an interesting year, releasing their app in February and steadily gaining recognition and traction. And with adoption came an inevitable crash, when servers became overloaded on Valentine’s Day and the app went offline. Gentry Underwood, CEO of Mailbox’s parent company Orchestra, assured users the company was hard at work fixing the issues and the app was back online that evening.

Aside from that minor glitch, reviews have generally been favorable. Mailbox works by offering a series of touch-screen gestures that let users sort and file every message in their inbox, promising a higher degree of organization and control over incoming messages. Users can stay on top of their email even when they are out of the office and without a keyboard, reducing clutter.

"Simple and intuitive, there has simply never been a better way to do e-mail from a mobile device," said Richard Gorman, digital marketing blogger. "All told, Mailbox is poised to become the reigning champion of mobile e-mail platforms."

Within two months of its launch, Mailbox was delivering more than 100 million emails per day. The company teamed up with Dropbox in March to support rapid growth and help build out new features and quickly scale the service. The result is support for the new email clients, with the promise of Dropbox integration coming in the future.
