A European cloud service provider has cemented a $1.37 million dealer with SSH Communications Security to monitor encrypted traffic across its data centers. The undisclosed service provider will use the SSH CryptoAuditor identity and access intelligence solution to continuously monitor encrypted traffic as well as glean valuable information about network and information accessibility.
The CryptoAuditor offering is unique in that it can monitor interactive, human identities such as specific, individual-authenticated accounts, as well as machine-to-machine (M2M) identities. This is especially beneficial for cloud and managed service providers (MSPs), who are combatting security risks stemming from the remote workforce.
The bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend has completely changed the work landscape for most companies, who must now manage external contractors and remote employees working on internal systems from a growing number of mobile devices. And with cloud-based services soaring in popularity and adoption, security and access issues and risks abound.
CryptoAuditor combats these challenges by offering real time DLP and SIEM enablement as well as interoperability with existing security intelligence frameworks. It can also extend security analytics and monitoring to previously unmonitored portions of the network, bringing new insights into traffic patterns and accessibility. The offering is also invisible to end users and only requires minimal training to implement.
“As has been seen in recent high profile breaches, unmonitored encrypted channels allow attackers to secretly 'exfiltrate' data by blinding security operations and forensics teams to the exploit itself, what was taken and to where,” said Tatu Ylonen, CEO and founder of SSH Communications Security. “CryptoAuditor is uniquely positioned to help cloud services providers - and data centers in general - monitor and control access to their infrastructure, applications and data.”
Data center security is big business, with a recent MarketsandMarkets report showing the market will hit $13.77 billion by 2018. And while physical data center security is a major component of that market, logical security is soaring, driven by a number of factors. An increasing number of data traffic and network connections, virtualization of data centers, increased cyber attacks and the rise of “mega data centers” throughout the world are all driving a need for better logical security solutions, including identity and intelligence management.
Offerings like CryptoAuditor are tailor-made for MSPs and cloud service providers who wish to pass along security assurances and intelligence to their customers. And not only do they offer peace of mind to end users, but the risk mitigation and potential operational savings from breaches and attacks provide a massive advantage for service providers.
